Default Blu-ray from China not readable on Sony S6700 Blu-ray player

This disc turned out to be a cheap Chinese copy from eBay. I've already gotten a refund because it wouldn't load on my Sony S6700 Blu-ray player that does read a lot of older DVDs that are not in the USA region. Of course, blu-rays are a different story.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/205278464568

Does anyone know why this won't read? It does show a disc present, with the name of the film. If I google, will I find a way to make the S6700 region free?

I'll have to toss this, but I wanted to keep it for Mandarin practice as it came with Chinese subtitles. That was the first hint it was fake. That and the poorly printed disc label and packaging.

Because you bought a cheap bootleg from China off eBay, maybe? This isn't rocket science...

I've bought many used discs DVD, Bluray and some 4K on eBay, with no problems. I'll watch the 4K once I upgrade my TV and player. It's not always obvious when a listing is fake or when it's simply another region. This one didn't indicate there would be any problems. As I posted, this player reads DVDs from other regions, which I proved myself.

If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Yeah...again, my suggestion is to not buy OBVIOUS bootlegs from random, sketchy sellers on eBay located in Guangzhou, China who have things for sale way cheaper than they should be.

Come on, man. So many red flags in that listing -- you should have known better.

I looked at the listing. The picture looks like it is a scam (it has "blu-ray*" written right on it in red letters.) Also, bootlegs are often actually DVD-/+Rs instead of Blu-ray Discs. If the bottom of the disc is purple, it is a DVD-/+R.

Get a refund tbh. If it's not working just get your money back and check the seller's feedback if they won't send a replacement.

Though I've actually got a couple of these releases and they all worked in my PS5, I have seen some sellers with negative feedback on how they were not able to play.

Buying blu-rays from China or anywhere from Asia aside from Japan off of eBay is sketch city. If it's a real bootleg (there's an oxymoron for you lol) then there's any number of reasons why it might not play. Bootlegs by their very nature are oftentimes not professionally made. Heck...it might not even have anything on that disc. You just never know. The best rule of thumb when it comes to eBay is...if it seems too good to be true...it most likely is. That goes for price as well as if it's something you can only find from China or somewhere like that. I wouldn't even put such a disc in my player..
