Default Arcade Archives 2

Since the first entry in the updated Arcade Archives (ACA) series was announced with Switch 2, figured I'd start a thread to capture new games as they are announced. Hamster released more than 300 classic arcade games for Switch and PS4 under the original ACA banner, porting games from pretty much everyone except Capcom and Sega. Most ACA games were $7.99 but no price announced yet for ACA2, I'm expecting it to bump up to $9.99 like their sister series ACA2 NeoGeo.

Arcade Archives 2 RIDGE RACER

Quote:
”Arcade Archives 2 RIDGE RACER” will be released on June 5th, 2025, the same day as the release of Nintendo Switch 2!

"RIDGE RACER" is a racing game released by NAMCO (Bandai Namco Entertainment) in 1993.Experience the essence of virtual reality with the 3D CG system, "System 22." This title offers four game modes, including three difficulty levels—Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced—as well as Time Trial (T.T.), where you compete one-on-one against a rival car to achieve the best time. Additionally, a DX version featuring support for an H-shifter and clutch is also included.

I'd really love a physical release of this retro gem, but the closest we'll get to preservation is via piracy.

An Arcade Archives Collection would be epic, especially as Sunset Riders was released under Arcade Archives.

Definitely, although not all 300+ are gems I would absolutely buy collections. I think they only did ACA NeoGeo collections, plus Konami and Taito bundled some of the ACA games into collections.

Love those ACA NeoGeo collections that received physical releases (albeit in Asia/Japan) on the Switch. I've been picking them up and they're now up to volume 6, encompassing roughly half of the original NeoGeo AES game library.

Pricing announced on the ACA RR site, my guess was off by a bit...I guess it's more expensive to emulate polygons than sprites.

Quote:
“Arcade Archives RIDGE RACER” for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 will be priced at $14.99 [USD].
“Arcade Archives 2 RIDGE RACER” for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S will be priced at $16.99 [USD].

Users who purchase “Arcade Archives RIDGE RACER” for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4, will be eligible for an ownership discount, allowing them to purchase “Arcade Archives 2 RIDGE RACER” for Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 for $2.99 [USD].
Please note this when making your purchase.
Quote:
Attention
Please note that the ownership discount will not be available if you purchase “Arcade Archives RIDGE RACER” after purchasing “Arcade Archives 2 RIDGE RACER.” Additionally, “Arcade Archives RIDGE RACER” and “Arcade Archives 2 RIDGE RACER” do not support cross-compatibility for save data etc. therefore save data cannot be shared between them. Please confirm the product before purchase to prevent duplicate or accidental purchases.
That's nearly double the traditional ACA price, but the upgrade matches their ACA2 NeoGeo upgrade price.

What a mess. Wonder what the performance differences are for the Switch/Switch 2 releases if any.

$15? Pass.

A bit more and I'd pay for a physical release.

I think VRR is the only differentiator, any other new features would absolutely work on PS4/Switch (and VRR will only benefit Switch 2 players in handheld mode for now).

I thought this was new pricing for ACA2, but the latest ACA release (NebulasRay) is also $15 on PS4 and Switch. Maybe Namco is charging higher licensing fees? The only other ACA game I know of that is higher than $8 is Macross, which only released in Japan @ 1,500円; the same as NebulasRay and Ridge Racer in Japan. Hopefully this isn’t a permanent price change for the ACA.

They've been doing physical ACA Neo Geo Switch 1 releases so if they made a compilation with this game, Sunset Riders, etc I'd pre order asap.

Since Hamster is working with Namco on these early 3D games, I hope Soul Edge/Soul Blade makes the cut.

Never came across this game in arcades, kind of makes me want to play Wave Race 64.

So weird. For some reason I thought the game was released on PS1. Weird it apparently never made it to any game console before now.

Goes to show how much was put into Waverace 64's water simulation. In this game the water really doesn't seem to affect you at all whereas you're constantly adjusting your placement in WR64 because the water is actively forcing against you.
