Australia Dune 4K UHD (1984) Limited Edition Sandbox (Imprint Collection) Aug 25

Dune 4K Blu-ray

Dune 4K Blu-ray US Import link

Order: Imprint

Quote:
Before sci-fi master Denis Villeneuve helmed the franchise, surrealist auteur David Lynch crafted his epic vision based on the classic novel by Frank Herbert.

This strictly Limited Edition Sandbox packaging features a tempered glass liquid sand panel, displaying the rolling sands of Arrakis and hints of spice melange, moving in front of the iconic poster artwork. Tilt the panel to watch the sands spill, run your fingers across the sand-like grit-textured surface of the hardbox, turn the foil-stamped text towards the light, and pull out the drawer to dive beneath the dunes.

This is a heavy, bespoke collector’s item, measuring 23 x 32cm, weighing in at 1.5kg, and comes replete with comprehensive physical extras:

- a full-colour matte laminated 27″ x 40″ folded print of the original poster;
- a reprint of the original official 1984 three-issue comic series;
- a hardcover booklet, featuring 60 pages of photographs and original production material;
- a 3D Lenticular Hardcase housing all four discs;
- six art cards;
- a custom-made transparent PVC display case with anti-scratch film lamination.

Rediscover the original Dune with the Theatrical Cut fully restored on 4K UHD with Dolby Vision, and on Blu-ray, plus the Extended TV Version on Blu-ray.

Dive beneath the dunes and behind the scenes with an exclusive extended cut of the feature-length documentary ‘The Sleeper Must Awaken’, alongside hours of Special Features.

The year is 10,191, and four planets are embroiled in a secret plot to wrest control of the Spice Melange, the most precious substance in the universe and found only on the planet Arrakis. A feud between two powerful dynasties, House Atreides and House Harkonnen, is manipulated from afar by ruling powers that conspire to keep their grip on the spice. As the two families clash on Arrakis, Duke Atreides’ son Paul finds himself at the centre of an intergalactic war and an ancient prophecy that could change the galaxy forever.

Starring Kyle MacLachlan, Virginia Madsen, Patrick Stewart, and Sting.

We are only pressing this mantelpiece-worthy Limited Edition set once, available now for pre-order.

Happy with the Arrow release, but that sandbox packaging does look cool.

The question is, will the retail product actually flow the sand that smoothly, or will it just unceremoniously drop down or get stuck

edit: is it just a lenticular and no physical sand? If so I've never seen a lenticular do that type of effect

Liquid sand? So not regular dry sand but sand that is suspended in some fluid?

The moving sand is inside a real glass panel filled with liquid, most likely a thick one like mineral oil or glycerin (which makes the sand drift slowly and smoothly when tilted). This panel sits in front of the poster artwork.

The lenticular part is a separate hardcase that holds the discs and features a 3D shifting image.

So, the package includes both real moving sand and lenticular art, but in different parts.

The lenticular is on the inner slip housing the amaray case.

Looks fantastic, but I can imagine this being a nightmare to ship without risking damage to the glass and the sand getting everywhere. One of those "great idea in theory only" concepts...

This is why they will likely be specially packing them for safe arrival. Nothing new!

My damaged copy of THE NEVERENDING STORY begs to differ. It arrived with a few dents on the leather texture and some glue residue from the medallion sticking out. This has glass and sand that can go everywhere in record time and damage the discs themselves... Still, looks impressive.

You aren't following; they gotta be aware of what this set is. The Neverending Story set wasn't filled with glass encased sand. If they don't individually pack these in their own containers for distro they'd actually be crazy and I don't believe they'd be that unaware. lmao

I am following just fine, thanks! No need to be rude. Merely sharing an observation based on my own personal experience with a similar large and delicate set from the exact same label. Time will tell.

Pretty sure bubble wrap still exists, it’s not like mail carriers are cracking boxes open with jackhammers.
If they can ship glass lightbulbs and sand-filled hourglasses, a Blu-ray set will be just fine, especially with how well ViaVision/Imprint packs their editions. Never had an issue with them.

Your mail carriers are evidently more civilized than the ones in my neck of the woods.

Add in the Amazon, UPS, and FedEx drivers to that.

They don't all do it, thank goodness most of them are civilized, but those pesky few can drive you mad when you see their nonchalance on your cameras. Kind of makes you long for the days you could go to a store and actually pick the items off the shelf yourself.
