Alright since nobody, or least I think so, is really talking about the 4K Remastered Blu-rays of Godzilla by Toho. I decided to make one for it. Remember...I'm only talking about the 4K Remastered Blu-rays...not 4K UHD Blu-ray.
For starters, Godzilla vs Hedorah has about 24 chapters in total. i may update my post on that. Ghidorah the Three-headed Monster has about 24 chapters also. By that I mean the scene chapters. Much of Toho's older HD Master blu-rays have more chapters than compared to the domestic releases overseas. I assume this applies to Toho's JP DVD's also. Anyways...this thread can be used to discuss upcoming releases of new remasters as well. Considering that Toho is releasing 6 new remasters sometime this month. Maybe in a week. As well as the ones already released so far. Comparisons, info, and specs are welcomed to. After all, these new remasters are drastically different from the older HD Master Blu-ray releases. The known 6 are: 1. Godzilla 1984 (a.k.a The Return of Godzilla) *Depending on you preference* 2. Godzilla vs MechaGodzilla (1974) 3.Terror of MechaGodzilla 4. Godzilla Raids Again 5. Godzilla Vs MechaGodzilla (1993) 6. Godzilla Final Wars. |

I've been buying the 4K Blu-ray of all the remastered Showa Godzilla films. They look great compared to the versions in the Criterion set. I also got the new 70th box set with the six films although I only care about the Showa films. I haven't had a chance to look at them yet.

I held off on buying the 7 movie box set that recently was released as the price was simply too much in one go and there's really only 2-3 remastered movies included that I'd want to pick up (again). I'm awaiting for individual title releases.
That said, I've picked up all the other 4k remastered Showa era releases both on 4K Blu-ray and 1080p remastered blu-ray and all of them are substantial upgrades over the nearly 2 decade old Blu-ray releases. King Kong vs Godzilla was frankly a revelation after decades of crummy sources used in the spliced together uncut version that's been around since the laserdisc days. |

When the 70th box sets went on pre-order I just decided to get the 1080p versions even though I didn't really care about the later films. I do hope the films will be sold individually so fans can buy the movies they want without the expense of buying all six at once. |

Also another big difference is that 4K Remastered Blu-ray menus are now static instead of having moving scenes in the menu backgrounds of the older Toho Blu-rays.
But either way...the films never looked better than ever. Plus, Godzilla vs Hedorah looks a bit brighter during the nightime scenes. They were pretty dark in the Sony/Kraken Releasing DVDs and the Kraken Blu-ray. |
