Default Backlighting Question

Set-up is in a den, not a dedicated theater room. 65" Samsung. Walls are all dark blue with white ceiling.

Backlight the TV or not? If so any light color suggestions?

Is this an OLED? I used to have my older LCD screens backlit and still do have my PC rig running one, but on an OLED with HDR/Dolby Vision I want the room as dark as possible so I don't run one. If you need a small amount of light have one of the corners lit or something so it won't reflect in the screen.

Not OLED. Thanks for the input, however.

Don't do it. Make the wall black instead so that the picture comes out of the blackness, with the letterboxes or pillarboxes not even visible.

Agree with Warm Gun here. If you're looking for an imersive experience, darken the wall behind the TV and don't use those "backlight" kits. It's not how the director intended and it just randomly selects colors from what the "eye" sees. If you want it for casual viewing and you don't find it distracting, go for it, I found it to be distracting and useless.

I have three LED televisions in my home. All three have backlights with multiple color options for the lighting. I generally use soft white, but sometimes I'll change the color of the lighting based on what I'm watching.

My televisions are 55-inch, 43-inch, and 40-inch. The walls and ceiling are white. All three backlights were purchased on Amazon, and were about $15 each.

I hope this is helpful.
