Default What about a grown up section of the forum?

Not to sound like a prick, but has any thought been given to having maybe a sub section of the forum that is for those who just want to talk about movies and blu without dealing with all of the same tripe over and over again?
Like a "members only" forum, where adults can post.
I do not mean like a forum with porn conversations or anything, but a forum where you have to agree to things before you are allowed in, have to have a set amount of posts under your belt and if you post "guys when are we getting the matrix????" or "zomg paramount is secretly against blu ??!!!" then you are no longer allowed to post in there.
If you post "zomg this guy at bobsbaitshackandhighdefnews.com said that hd dvd was cheated by blu here is the link!!!" back to the kiddie board.
If you post "lets make a petition for Jumanji on blu!!!" then back to the main board for you.

I know that there are many many many people on this board that feel the same and would enjoy the chance to have a small less cluttered playground.
And then the rest of the board can continue on and as people decide to enter the other section they are welcome to it.

That would be nice to have like an above 500 post section or something of the sort.

A 500 post count would be a bummer for me having "Only 200+" posts. Have a degree in Mathamatics/Computer Science, 10+ years experiance in Computer Programming and will be A+ certified soon - only to be religated to the newbie section? Welcome the idea of an area for intelligent only conversation, but it is a long shot on being able to seperate the wheat from the chaf. Post counts alone won't fly.

You're right, post counts alone won't fly. I am just not sure how else you would manage this type of idea. I could care less one way or another. I to am into the tech. field, I am the MIS at my workplace. I like talking to whoever about anything related to Blu, so I would probably hang in both places anyway.

It can even be made so that anyone at all can read the threads in that section but not post or reply that way there is no feeling of keeping some kind of secret.
I am sure there are other ways aside from high post count to set a bar.

my point of view would be
1. post counts to get you in, would lead you to post *****s...
2. the helpfullness of certain members can also lead to 'discriminating' members.

maybe to add in the criteria would be joined date, to sort of see seniority so to speak

I agree with what you're saying. The only bad thing about it has been stated. Some people that are very knowledgeable on here ONLY post when they have input and don't have many under their belt. And I think this would just cause more crap on the main forums from people trying to reach the "500 exclusive forum" and spamming. And I'm not talking about this

As a newer member, and one with a relatively low post count I agree with the idea, but have hesitations about how to do this.

Using myself as an example:
-I may be new here, but I am not new to using a forum. Therefore I am educated about the proper ediquite that is required.

-My low post count is such, in part, becasue of the fact that the board has so many repetative threads and I just don't wast my time posting replies of "have you heard of the search function?" These types of responses are not productive. A helpful, polite PM might be more effective than embarrasing someone in public.

Here's a suggestion, and it's not a guarrantee, but I think it may help educate people.
When you attempt to start a thread, you should be directed to a page before the actual page where you type your post. That page would ask a series of questions that would require you to check a little box next to them before continuing on to make create the thread. The questions would be something along the line of;
-Have you searched for similar threads?
-Does your title accurately describe the topic of your thread?
-Are you posting in the appropriate forum?
Remember each question would have a yes / no box to check.

I'm just doing a little brainstorming out loud, it's not perfect but I don't think segregation is neccessarily the answer.

i actually thought when i started and couldn't start a new thread except in the newbie area that was great, and at that time i don't remember there being quite as much clutter in other threads. forces new members to 1.) use the search engine 2.)bite the bullet and post in the newbie section and hope for help (which was never a problem).

but i think alot of the recent "wow i just checked that area and now there are 20 new threads" is because of the recent news. i would hope it calms back down after a while.

Sounds good to me. The post count criteria is a little troublesome, as I'm sure there are people that have just as much or more knowledge of the subjects discussed here, but don't post that much or are just joining.

Maybe a post count based thing for starters, then those initial people can invite others, and be held somewhat accountable for the actions of those they invite.

I like the idea of a trash forum where those posts you mention could go. That way there would be a place for those people who just like to ***** about HD-DUD or whatever clever name they choose to call it.

And then the rest of the board could be for actual BD talk.

Hmmm, speaking of a trash forum, if the thread ratings system were taken a little more seriously by the members themselves, the problem could solve itself rather quickly. With a simple script, it would be easy to close automatically or "trash" the terrible threads with 1-star or no-star ratings.

I'm attempting to branch out from other A/V forums and post here, but I'm afraid at this rate that it's going to be a long, long time before I would reach the proposed 500-post threshold to sit at the adult table. Meanwhile, and while I hate to admit this, there are posters on this site with postcounts in the thousands who have yet to say anything intelligent or even on-topic.

Sounds like a swell idea. Let's not stop there, let's segregate even further . We can segregate by race, sex, religion. Or we can just deal with the fact some don't have the intelligence as others and ignore irrelevant posts

yeah i know what you mean about the post count thing cause maybe people with lesser posts can be just as informative and mature as people with a few hundred or more posts.
the idea of taking someone off the board who makes dumb posts was a good idea tho.

Hear, hear! That's actually an excellent idea, but might cause a bit of a backlash amongst other users - besides, there are users over 500 posts who don't necessarily act - how did you put it? Ah - grown up.
