Genius Products (also known as Genius Entertainment) is a home video company based in Santa Monica, California.

On December 5, 2005, Genius Products, Inc. announced a distribution joint venture with The Weinstein Company called Genius Products, LLC,[1], and The Weinstein Company would hold 70% stake of it. The transaction was approved by stockholders and was closed on July 24, 2006.[2] The high-profile movies from The Weinstein Company help Genius Products to open the doors to major retailers like Wal-Mart and Target. [3]

In March 2006, The Weinstein Company announced a distribution pact with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. MGM will distribute films domestically in theaters, while the Weinstein Company will retain long-term ownership of their product. Upon a Weinstein Company or Dimension Films release on DVD, full distribution rights will revert to Weinstein under Genius.[4]

In November 2006, Genius (through The Weinstein Company) announced a three-year deal with Blockbuster Video to give the video renting company exclusive rights for rentals starting on January 1, 2007.[5] However, under the First Sale Doctrine, other rental companies are able to rent the company's movies.

Around January 11, 2007, Entertainment Rights and Classic Media announced a distribution deal with Genius Products, which replaced Classic Media's deal with Sony Wonder.

Genius Products is also releasing DVDs for other companies, including Tartan Films, ESPN, Discovery Communications, ImaginAsian, Sesame Workshop, World Wrestling Entertainment and IFC Films.

The problem is they need to release titles.

W/o titles released, who care your claiming about which side you took?

Just as before, they said they were HD DVD exclusive, but they only maybe only 1 HD DVD releases? to make it effiecially neutral.

Both could've been released (and will be released) on Blu at anytime by Disney.

There is preview footage for Sin City on Lost Season 3 (I think that's the one). It looked spectacular, but I wouldn't expect a Blu release until Sin City 2 (which should be 2009)

Weinstein - please give me Lucky Number Slevin

Kinda makes since due to Genius having a exclusive deal with Blockbuster and Blockbuster being a Blu company.

But as far as I know Genius only has a joint venture with Weinstein and not actually their sole distributor. So Untill Weinstein itself announce they are Blu we might not get some of their better films

No it was filmed in 1080p Digital, then the added scratch... it look nowhere near as bad a a REAL 1970's, 1980's Grindhouse film.. now that's how 28 days later look...
That's not accurate.

The Planet Terror half of Grindhouse was digitally recorded with HD video cameras. Death Proof was shot on 35mm film.

I watched Grindhouse last Spring in 2K digital cinema. The artificial image degradation Robert Rodriquez applied to Planet Terror was over the top and not very realistic at all either. Death Proof didn't have quite so much of the image degradation shtick. Its image quality was a lot better than that of Death Proof -it's just too bad the movie itself was a overly talky piece of garbage.

Wasn't Grindhouse's picture made to look degraded deliberately to look like the old movies they played in grindhouses?
