My personal favorite in the series is VIII. Hopefully it will get some sort of special treatment at some point.

$59.99 at Best Buy currently. So far no mention of a Switch 2 upgrade path for the Switch version (or if it'll even be necessary).

Here's the bloated collector's edition. Square-Enix store exclusive for $250... would be $298 for me with shipping + tax. That's right, you get a ship in a bottle figure, a steelbook, and a plush for an extra ~$200.

Beyond the ridiculous prices of recent Square collector's editions, I hate the fact that the different components have nothing to do with each other. There's not even a collector's edition box to house the stuff. They did this crap with the DQ3 collector's edition.

And yes, the Switch 2 edition is key card.

I was going to play this when the 3ds version was released but the play time is overwhelming

This is a lot more than I thought it was going to be. HD-2D is fine for the remakes of the visually uniform early games but it’s good to see something different for the later ones like VII.

I wonder what else they’ve been covertly working on, as it is Dragon Quest’s 40th anniversary next year.

This looks great. This and the Fatal Frame 2 remake were the highlights of the recent Direct for me.

I was super excited until they showed the world map. I want DQ 8/11 style. Not this overview stuff. We've already had 1 remake of this. Time to do it right.

Nonetheless, I will get it, for PS5, and probably the collector's edition. All $250 of it. 😬

You might want to preorder soon if you go that route. The $230 collector's for Octopath Traveler 0 already sold out for every console, as did the pricy (for what you get) $150 Dragon Quest I+II collector's. I'd expect the DQ VII collector's (despite costing $300 shipped) will likewise sell out before too long. Especially so for the Switch 1 collector's as Switch 1 are usually the most prized for collector's thanks to nobody wanting Switch 2 key cards.
