Default What if we don’t want fancy features?

All we want to do is rent Blu Ray discs from Block Buster, play the movie, then return them. We want great sound and picture quality, but we don’t care about things like special features or PIP.

I should mention here that we already have a Bose Lifestyle 70 sound system and a 52 inch sony 1080P.

So, why do we want to go above Profile 1.0? Wouldn’t we just be paying a lot for something we have no intention of using? Don’t the 1.0 units have great sound and picture quality?

Is there a place we can go on line to view all the 1.0 units side by side to compare price and features?

Thanks

newer units tend to load faster and have more audio options.
(most 1.0 can't bitstream or decode DTS-HD-MA for example)
So if AQ is important that could be a factor in choosing a newer model.

I’m familiar with some of the additional audio feature, like 7-1 surround and audio mixing where you can mix the audio from the main movie with your PIP. But, since I don’t want PIP when watching a rented movie, and am very happy with 5-1 surround sound, what “audio options” are we talking about? Yes, AQ is important, but what does 1.1 or 2.0 do to improve the AQ of a rented movie in 5-1 surround?

Basically I’m looking for a reason to get the better unit, but the only reasons I can find on any of the forums have to do with features that go way beyond just watching a rented move in the best possible Audio and Video quality. It seems as if all of the Profiles give you the best possible Audio and Video quality when just watching a movie. The higher Profiles just seem to add features for doing other things? Am I wrong with this?

Red,

I'm sure that most on this site do want fancy. There are many areas of my life were I also pay a lot extra for "fancy" or "the best".

My question here deals with those of us who just want fantastic picture and sound quality without all the bells and whistles.

1.0's are getting cheaper as the 1.1's and 2.0's come on the market. Are these unit great bargans for non-fancy people like me? Or am I going to be sacrificing my home theatre "quality", not "features", if I buy a 1.0?

I actually do not care for PIP or the extras (99% of the time). Interactivity will be cool, I guess.

I for one always tend to buy a product with extra features because you never know that maybe, just maybe one day your all time past or new favorite movie will come out and you just gotta watch the specail features of the making and what not. Most of the time, I personal don't bother with special features but there are one or two movies in which I have watched the special features for.

As far as players go, the newer 2.0 players are going to have better picture and audio quality (Supposedly) Really the choice in the matter of buying a Profile 1.0 or 1.1 player is of course A) Money, B) Firmware Update life, Compared to the 2.0 models with newer hardware.

Five discs of Blade-Runner, and I've only watched one of them....

I don't care about special features.... the pop-up menu deal is "fancy" enough for me!
