Default Blu-ray.com movie reviews

Wanted to get some of your opinions on the reviews here. Do you agree with most of them? Disagree?

Why does Martin Liebman appear to be handling all of the reviews lately? I'd like to see reviewers like PeteR and Ben Williams back in the mix. No offense to Liebman as I'm sure he has his personal preference in movies and things he looks and hears for to grade the PQ and AQ, however I've been somewhat disagreeing with some of his reviews over the past month.

I do agree with most of the reviews on this site but they are way behind other sites as far as all the movies

my main complaint is there should be another scale of improvement over sd-dvd. Everyone is concerned about pq and how close to refference quality it is but there are so many variables that are overlooked by most.

There are several reasons for this: Martin has by far the most time available for doing reviews, while Ben, Peter, Lindsay, Greg, Deci, Sir T and others are quite busy doing other stuff. There also haven't been a lot of movies released for some time, so we've simply sent the bulk of the movies to Martin. As the studios release more movies and Paramount and Universal start releasing (again), you will see many more movie reviews and as a result the reviews will be more evenly spread out among our reviewers.

Several studios have also had big problems getting screeners out in time (if at all), that's also why you see a lot of catalog reviews.

Iceman, thank you for the feedback and thank you and the staff to include Martin Liebman for the work you guys do to keep this great site running.

To Martin Liebman, if you're reading this, 5 out of 5 for Shoot Em Up (movie itself) and 4.5 out 5 for Die Hard? Really?? I know a lot of people enjoyed Shoot Em Up but I have to believe that you are in the minority if you consider Shoot Em Up a better action movie than Die Hard! We're talking about Die Hard here! An action classic, 3 sequels, a generation of copycat movies, and more importantly after 20+ years it's still considered one of the best action movies ever.

Perhaps you should check your facts again...I did not review Die Hard. Greg Maltz did. I would have given it 5/5 stars as well.

Shoot 'Em Up is a parody, Die Hard is a movie meant to be taken seriously. Both are perfect examples of their respective genres in my opinion.

The flip side to that is that when you compare BDs to DVDs, it is like comparing a 1080p plasma to a standard def CRT TV, so how meaningful is the comparison? In the beginning I often compared BDs to previous versions on DVD, but as more BDs are released, I think it may make more sense to compare them to reference quality BDs. As long as the comparison makes sense and gives the reader a good idea of the PQ, that should be all that matters.
