Default 5.1 audio drop out on Blu-ray Only

Maybe you guys can help me figure this out.

I got a PS3 over the weekend and I'm connecting with component and optical cables. Everything works great playing games and DVDS, but when I put a Blu Ray disc in, the dolby digital continually breaks up like a scratched CD, but it's only the audio...the picture stays consistent, but the audio gets choppy.

I have a Sony receiver (about 3 years old) that works fine with my DVDs, 360, etc., but the PS3 audio is the only problem. I changed the sound field, and it skipped less...but I can't tell if the problem is the receiver or the PS3. Any thoughts?

It should work normally. What if you don't allow any sound field processing at all? Would that work better?

If you have another optical input that's not used, try that one.

Make sure you have Bitstream selected as audio output. Why? optical does not suport enough bandwith to do PCM wav.

Secondly, with optical your only limited to the standard Dolbly Digital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 tracks.

To get uncompressed you have to use HDMI. Of course, your HT system must suport HDMI. A TV that supports HDMI may have 6ch analog outputs, but your HT system must support 6ch audio which most "HT systems in a BOX" don't.

Normaly on a standard DVD player you can output PCM via coaxil. I don't think PS3 supports coaxil.

Yeah, I've been using Bitstream. The audio starts but it breaks up occasionally-frequently during parts of teh movie.

Is there any way its trying to encode a more powerful format (over optical) than just DD. Because I can't make sense of why only with the PS3 ,and only with Blu Ray playback does it skip.

Have you tried your PS3 unit on another receiver to see if its the receiver or the player?

Could be your unit has a defect?

I actually used my neighbor's bose 3-2-1 unit and it didnt experience the problem. So it must be the receiver. Could it be a problem with the speaker wiring, or is it likely just an issue that my receiver has in general.

Default 5.1 audio drop out on Blu-Ray Only

I have been having a Clipping problem from Blu-Ray movies in 5.1

Whenever it gets above a certain level (regardless of volume level) it drops out .
I have tried both the PS3 and the Samsung Blu-Ray player. From the Samsung both Optical and Coaxial. My receiver is a Sony and is fairly new as it has component ins.

Any Ideas?

How do the cables look? Connected solidly? In good shape?

Tried 2 differant Opticals and a Coaxial, firmly connected. Like I said it happens consistantly at certain spots (high audio level).

Have you thought about hooking it up losslessly with analog audio outs instead of using coaxial or optical?

Since you tried two players, it seems your receiver is having some kind of overload/prortection tripping...

It would seem that way, when I called Sony they said it was a 1.1 Digital reciver and Blu-Ray was 1.3.
I kinda doubt that because that's not even a spec listed on Recivers and if it were that critical it would be.

Does this problem exist when playing a DVD or HD source?

Hmm...that doesn't sound right. Sounds like they were referring to HDMI (1.1 vs. 1.3), not to the optical/coax. They were probably confused.

Default PS3 Digital audio problems

i just bought a new 60GB PS3, and there seems to be a problem with the (Digital) audio output. the game Need For Speed Carbon works fine, but when a normal Blu-Ray movie is put in there is no digital audio. i am currently running it through a Optical out on a Sony DA-3000ES... if you have any ideas or solutions it would be greatly appreciated!

Edit:: problem solved see 5.1 dropouts for the solution

1.) Change the Sound setting to output to digital out (Optical) then put a check mark to all soundfield that applies to your receiver..

2.)Under BD audio output format change to bitstream

I already have my PS3 configured for bitstream in BD settings and have all DD5.1 DTS and acc checked and I get the audio drop outs still over Optical to my reciever.

If anything I am having a problem because Blu-Ray is using a better signal then my receiver can handle.

Shock definately let me know what you find out. Is the problem happening on all your blu rays? So far it has only happened on Underworld evolution. Do you have that movie? Perhaps we can see if it happens in the same spots on your disc as mine.
