There are some darker scenes near the beginning of the latest HP OOTP SD DVD, that were encoded so badly, that no upconverter now or in the future, could ever make it look reasonably good, let alone in the same league as high-def. Looks like someone took the original and compressed to 50% it's that bad.

High-def is the future, not the pi$$ poor immitation of high-def.

I didn't think the interview was that bad. What's he supposed to say? We have no future, we're getting out of CE completely, may I borrow your katana to fall on?

This guy helped us out in that he exited immediately once they couldn't win. He could have gone for a salt the earth strategy that could have doomed us all.

In some ways, we should thank him for quickly stepping out of the way of Blu-ray.

Toshiba thought that 30 GB was plenty and look what happened. We'll see how far these upconverting players take them this time....ha!

I hope so! That's something that would benefit the HD consumer tremendously.

Blu-ray Discs would look oh-so-nice on a state-of-the-art 1080p SED display...

SED has been shelved by Toshiba and given back to Canon the last I heard due to legality (patent) issues. However, a GREAT alternative, IMO is the LaserTV...

i agree, but a lot of people think if they buy a upconvert player they are seeing hi-def.i wish the ce's would stop making these players.

He's essentially saying to HD-DVD supporters: "Suckers! We had SD-DVD players that would show movies in the same quality as your HD-DVD movies." Of course, he's wrong, since upconverting/upscaling is NOT the same as HDM, but I agree, what a tool for saying that.

But, he's just spouting the same FUD that red ants spout. This is just now coming from the top.

11' OLEDs just streeted in the US a few months back. I would not expect a 50" model to street for another couple of years, at least not for a resonable price tag.
