Default No Country for Old Men a good blind-buy?

I haven't seen it and don't quite know what to expect. I thought Fargo was decent, not mind blowing but maybe a little too weird. Would I like NCFOM?

If you like movies like Pulp Fiction and Departed then you can feel safe buying
No Country.....If you do i think Amazon has it for $23.00....and there was
a $10 off coupon floating around earlier today....

If your easily offended No country may not be a good choice....other than
that, go for it...

I will say this though, it's no, There Will be Blood

Why what kind of things are in the movie that could "offend" a person?

You could just say that it's no movie for old men.

I'm blind buying it.

This is the way I see it - Seeing it in the theater is more of a monetary risk then bying the BD.

If the girl & I had one to see it in the theater, it would have cost us $20 just for the tickets plus whatever we would spend on snacks. So probably $30 for us to have seen it. In a crowded theater.

The BD will cost $25 at the most, but probably much less if that coupon works. If we don't like it, then the BD still has some resale value and we can recoup most of our money. I'll be out maybe $5 if I end up hating it. Consider it a rental.

In the end, it works out to be more economical to just buy the BD than to see the movie in the theater.

huh? I didn't find this movie similar in any way, but that's just me. Probably because there's no music in it at all and Pulp Fiction and The Departed both have really great soundtracks. I'll be getting NCFOM, but it's definitely not for everyone. Not that this is a good way to judge, but as I was leaving the theater, from overhearing other people I was definitely in the minority by liking it.

Im gonna shoot with a yes.

I saw this in theatres and I was blown away. Im sure you will be also. (it helps if you are a fan of the Coen brothers also. Their movies are pretty unique)

Not having seen "NCFOM" yet either, here's one thing I'm wondering: even if you liked this movie quite a bit, is it something that lends itself to repeat viewings?

That's the main standard I try to use in buying a movie versus renting it. I've seen plenty of movies that I thought were great, but didn't feel like seeing again for whatever reason.

The Passion of the Christ is one such example. I thought it was a great movie. But it's not something I can stand to watch repeatedly -mainly because it was just violent to such a sadistic and gruesome degree.

Actually, I would recommend watching this multiple times, so that's a definite yes.

That's what I like to hear. The ability for replaying mutliple times is a major reason for me to buy BDs. This review has rated this movie highly. I will be picking up this one.

I saw this movie the other day in the theater. While I thought it was okay, I decided I didn't like it enough to spend money on the Blu-ray, not matter how good the PQ is. No much happened at all in this movie. Tommy Lee Jones had a small part and really didn't much with it. Josh Brolin was okay, and the hitman did a decent job. But I never thought the whole thing really had much of a story to tell. I can honestly say I will never watch this thing again. Even if you lent me the movie, I would not watch it again.

This film is a sleeper and an absolute masterpiece that gets better each time you see it. Mark my words, it will go down as the best film of the decade. But there's no accounting for personal taste.

Although I like the Coen Brothers, I feel their movies have very little replay value. I made the mistake of blind buying Gone Baby Gone based on all of the recommendations here. It was a good movie but I just don't see myself ever taking the time to watch it again. I feel like No Country for Old Men will be the same way so I didn't blind buy it today. I will rent though whenever Netflix feels like sending me a movie.

This is absolutely a good blind buy because it isn't exactly a fast paced action movie yet its extremely violent. I also got Hitman I,Robot which will rule and ID4
