Default Sold my BDP-300 for a 40gig PS3

And I have to say, I am so much happier.. The 40gig PS3 is as quiet as the BDP-300 and so much more user friendly. No more frustrating slow responses from the remote, no more waiting a couple of minutes for a disc to load. No more where am I, did I press the button or is this thing as a slow as molasses.

No omre whining from the missus saying this thing is crap !

Plus I can play all my PS3 games from the front room on my DSP-A1.

Most happy..

I know I originally went for the BDP-300 to match the rest of my gear in the hi-fi rack.. But now the ps3 has to be tucked behind my tv.

For all those who are wondering, now that I own both a launch 60gig and recent 40gig. The 40gig IS A MUCH BETTER blu-ray player? Why cos its fan noise is a lot quieter, and it doesnt get as warm meaning the already silent fan hardly ever kicks in while watching a movie.

Thx

Interesting...I was thinking about getting a 40gb one strictly for blu-ray use as I want my baby (60gb) to last me forever!

This is the exact reason I am waiting to see if there is a new SKU coming that has B/C. If nothing comes out around June and the new Metal Gear bundle has the same 65nm chips - I will just get that.

I love my 60gig - but just wish it were quieter for movies.

I feel that PS3 is the best value for money. It delivers an excellent picture for BD. If you could live with audio shortcomings of PS3, it is an excellent purchase.

I did the exact same thing, trading my 301 for a PS3 and I'm extremely glad I did! My better half is much happier as well

The BDP-S300 does a good job when it's playing. However, I am embarrassed to turn it on and load a BD when I have guests. They think it's so slow that it must be a lemon, and they say I wasted my money.

So now I only use it when I am alone.

Me too! I am getting rid of my BDP-S301, but I will not be replacing it with PS3 40/60 GB player. My son brought his PS3 60GB player over the other night so I could test drive it to see if that's what I wanted. Both of the players were hooked up to my new Onkyo 805 using separate HDMI connections and comparisions were made by switching between HDMI inputs.

The PS3's PQ wasn't any better on my 47" LCD 1080p than it was for the S301 My son also expected the PS3 to have better PQ, but he admitted that there wasn't any difference between the two. Both units gave a great HD picture while watching The 5th Element (Remastered). My son brought over his copy of the same BD so both were playing The 5th Element simultaneously and we synchonized them as best as we could. I just bought an Onkyo 805 last week and my son wanted to see that and how well his PS3 performed especially with the DD-THD audio because his AVR does not have HDMI connections. He uses an optical connection for sound. He was ecstatic with the excellent sound of lossless DD THD decoded in the PS3 and sent as PCM to my Onkyo 805 though HDMI. Now he's getting one.

There was no difference in AQ between the two for the Fifth Element (remastered) PCM 5.1 or DD-THD. The S301 is no piece of crap, and neither is the PS3. My son was actually impressed by the S301's performance. He was a nay sayer and despite all his attempts at persuading me to get a PS3, I went out and bought the S301. It was cheaper! Actually, the S301 performs much better through HDMI than it did with the former 5.1 analog connection I was using. True, if you enjoy games, get the PS3 best of both worlds.

It looks like I wouldn't gain much by getting the PS3 except games and reduced load times. I want to be able to listen to any lossless audio format availabe on a BD, especially DTS-MA tracks. That's why I've decided to go for the Panasonic DMP-BD50.
