Whats a safe amount of time to leave the PS3 on continually? I am interested in the folding at home program and also the remote play function of the machine. If i use the remote play function i will be out of the house for about 3 days at a time! Is it safe to leave the ps3 on for that long?

I have read about people on this site who keep it on 24/7. I personally don't and don't wish to take a chance with that but the length of time the PS3 is left on seems to have little impact on overall lifespan.

thats true, i do leave my pc on all the time, and have no problems with it. I don't know though i have always been concerned about what leaving things on all the time will do to the products lifespan though especially in consoles, leaving the pc on does not bother me for some reason

if we were talking any other system, i'd say it might be worth being cautious. but like i said..as long as its got plenty of breathing room, you'll be fine. only reason i don't run mine all the time anymore is to save on the electric bill

Even my PC doesn't stay on 24/7 anymore -- why the heck would it need to when I'm asleep?

I feel like I'm in the minority...

I've never been able to tempt fate and leave anything that I own on for that long.

Are you talking about your PS3 or your Roomba by iRobot?

How can you turn it on since launch then never turn it on for two straight years?

I never turn my computer off unless I go away on vacation. It is on 24/7. Yep, it does sleep at night - and occasionally I will restart it to clear the RAM.

I don't have a Roomba by iRobot. Or is it an iRobot by Roomba?

Whatever.

You should download the folding@home client for your computer.

http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Download

That way your computer will be doing something good for science while you sleep. And the electricity won't be a total waste.

I own a launch 20GB PS3. Ever since folding@home was launched for the PS3 (March 23, 2007, I believe), my PS3 has been turned off for probably 20-30 hours, total. If I'm not playing games, or watching blu-rays, my PS3 is folding. So, basically, in the last 350 days my PS3 has been running non-stop (excepting those 20-30 hours). My PS3 still works perfectly (knocks on wood), and my electricity bill has seen an increase of about $12-$15 per month, on average, so it's not too bad.

Its Roomba by IRobot.
I have one! Woohoo.

Not shure what this has to do with Folding@Home though.

I've had my PS3 since launch day and it has been on 24/7 since... except for the 5 days it took to move from Ontario to British Columbia.
