Default Lossless audio?

I FINALLY GOT MY PS3!!

Anyway, I have a question about the audio. If I change the audio output to the typical red and yellow cables, will I still hear HD "lossless" audio? Or does it have to be HDMI?

Well technically you're right. But only if s/he wants multichannel lossless (and of course everybody wants that) which s/he has to use with a receiver capable of multichannel input, which s/he didn't address. You can get lossless stereo sound using the red and yellow/white RCA cables - again STEREO ONLY.

I don't have surround sound. But what if I have the sound going directly to my HDTV using the red and yellow cords? Does the sound quality decrease?

It won't if the cables are good, which they typically are; use the ones supplied with the PS3 and set it up accordingly.

But if you're connecting your PS3 to your HDTV via HDMI, just use HDMI for audio and video.
