Default I'm a Blu-ray newbie...help

Hi Guys

I've read a lot of the posts on here & most of it is very techy for me & I'm getting mighty confused!....

Please forgive me for my questions as I'm sure you all think I'm a donut!

I recently bought a PS3 & discovered the Blue-ray function on it

I'm using the cable (that came in the PS3 box) to connect my 32inch LG plasma with the PS3...

I bought Superman Returns on BlueRay from HMV,watched it & while the quality is great...its still the sameish quality as from a normal dvd player

Is this because there are specific HD cables to link the PS3 & TV sold seperatly that I can buy?

And if so could any of you recomend one to me please?

Sorry for the questions again & thanks for looking!

Danny

Connect your PS3 to your TV with an HDMI cable (get the cheapest one you can find).

Btw, it's BLU-ray (not blue).

Danny, it is so good that you came to this web site forum for advice. I don't have a PS3, but I do have a Wii.

The point is that there are so many experts here who can help you. Sadly, I am not one of them.

What are your favorite PS3 games? Do you have Dance Dance Revolution (it is still a PS2 game -- and also a fairly new release for the Wii system).

Also, what is your favorite Blu-ray movie. Do you have I AM LEGEND? If not, I recommend it.

Take care.

I also recommend you try Folklore. Amazing game, amazing quality. Even better with 7.1 surround sound!
Also, Uncharted. Another amazing(ly difficult) game!

Absolutely. It's like night and day.

Composite (Red/White/Yellow) cables, what you're using now, are restricting your video to standard definition and look like regular TV. HDMI cables will allow you to experience high definition video - the entire reason for owning a HDTV.

Component (RGB) cables also allow HD video, although to a lesser extent. Go with HDMI if you can.

Good luck.

^ Actually, you got it backwards. Component allows HD (even 1080p on proper equipment) and composite doesn't.

My bad... it was way too early when I posted that. I had just woke up. I was under the impression component only could handle 720p/1080i?

well if you were watching in analog SD with the yellow (video) cable and with the HDMI you get digital HD 720, 1080i or 1080p, it's gonna be a "little" better . Also if going from red/white (left/right stereo audio) into HDMI or optical toslink lets you hear in 5.1 multichannel it may sound a "lil" better too.

Make sure you set your PS3's Display/Audio Settings to take advantage of your TV/Receiver's capabilities too.

With that you're only getting stereo audio and composite video aka crap quality.

Get an HDMI cable now!

you'll have to setup the PS3 for the HDMI cable (have 30 seconds to change the cable so better get the cables near the TV and PS3)

get Tiger Woods 2007, optional use of the Sixaxis movement detection and MUCH BETTER than Tiger Woods 2008!

To the OP: With the Red, White and Yellow RCA connectors, the most you'll get out of your 32" LG Plasma (assuming that plasma is 1080i) is 576p/480p video.

To get the full 1080i quality, you can either get a PS2 MultiOut Component cable or a HDMI cable. And then you'll see the point of Blu-ray Discs.

Watched a blu-ray dvd...wooooo,what can i say...amazing quality!

I want to buy a larger TV now!!

Thanks to everyone!
