I'm sure that I can't be the first to ask, but I can't seem to find any opinions on this. Is the quality of the PS3 playback of Blu-Ray movies the same as a component player of equal cost?
I am interested in movies 95% and perhaps games 5%...I can certainly do without the games, but if the quality and experience (load times, audio options, etc) are equal, I'd probably go with the PS3. Also, does the PS3 support any audio option that is on the disc (5.1, 7.1, etc) or only certain ones? Thanks, Darrin |

A component DVD player? No way. Blu ray Disc still has way way way way way better picture than its DVD mother. Now get a PS3 its has Blu ray Disc which is what you need for FULL HD movies duh. And it supports HD audio and soon DTS MA.

Blu Haze, thanks for the reply. What I meant by component player is a Blu-Ray Player. Is the PS3 just as good at playing Blu-Ray Movies as a Blu-Ray player that costs about the same money.
thanks. |

Yes the PS-3 provides Picture Quality that rivals that of a stand alone player. From my experience, the load times of the PS-3 are faster than a stand alone. Also, from what I have witnessed on this forum, the PS-3 is the preferred Blu-ray player. I own a PS-3 and a stand alone, and frankly, the PS-3 has bailed me out of some situations with "freeze-up" issues on my stand alone. ![]() |

The real question to me is what does the player say about you. People come over and you show them a PS3, and they think you play video games. You tell them its for movies 95% of the time and they laugh at you because they know the PS3 is for video games. The PS3 has faster load times, more features, and plays games as well as play movies. It is overall with a checklist comparison a better BD player, but the quality of the picture and sound is the same on each player. Go with the standalone, it tells people "I'm an adult who watches movies, not a kid who plays with video games"!
