Default CES rumor buzz

This cropped up over on AVS:

Quote:
OK, just got off the phone with my Sony Rep again who is currently in Las Vegas for CES. He told me of some more announcements expected at CES next week, they are:

Die Hard Trilogy - Fall 2007
Spiderman 1 & 2 - 04/30/07 (Updated Date)
Pirates of the Carribbean - Summer 2007
Alien - Fall 2007
Oceans 11, 12, 13 - Fall 2007
X-Men 1 & 2 - Summer 2007
Casino Royal - March 2007. Also look for catalog Bond releases starting to hit Blu- ray in the Fall of 2007.
There were more I couldn't write fast enough though!!

He also mentioned that Warner Brothers will reach parity between the two formats by Summer of 2007.

He also mentioned that Disney and Fox will make it clear during CES that they will continue to exclusively support only Blu-ray and they will try to put to bed the rumours that they may support HD-DVD during 2007.

Asked about LionsGate going nuetral and he had no information.

He also mentioned that Universal will solidly stay in HD-DVD's court for 2007 but he has spoken to "higher-ups" who say Universal will be releasing on Blu-ray in early 2008.

**** I STRESS THIS INFORMATION IS NOT OFFICIAL, SO PLEASE DO NOT TREAT IT AS SUCH ****

Once more, if these bear out, why bother with anything else? Solid titles, particularly as both Fox and Sony are ranking high ont he PQ chart these days at places, and AQ is just top notch across the board... the resolve of many will falter in the face of the growing A-list titles.

Thumbs up

Works for me. I'll be buying pretty much all of those at first sight, day and date on BD, that's for sure!

Big time content like that will wrap things up quite nicely for BD in 2007 if all of that truly comes to pass in a timely manner.

A LOT of people will be right behind me buying most, if not all, of those titles in droves! Those are system and platform selling titles for the most part.

I certainly hope that all ends up being true. I'll never miss Universal in the interim that they continue to be unbelievably stupid and short sighted and lacking in common business sense.

There's money to be made with BD Universal! Wake up! 2008 is a long time from now when you could be making nice cash NOW. Why throw another whole year down the tubes needlessly?

IF any of that is actually true...

Nice, but we already knew about all of those titles. The interesting comments are about Universal and Warner. If the comments about Universal are true, then by the end of the year we'll be singing 'Happy Christmas, the war is over'.

Not putting too much weight on this, but this idea of "format war lasting roughly a couple of years" concept keeps floating around and I think most people agree that the moment Universal blinks, that's pretty much it.

That 2008 figure, if it ends up being true, sure gels nicely with a lot of the rest of the talk, but who knows? *shrugs*

I wonder if 'told you so' posts will be banned at 'the other forum'?

Though really I think it will be more drawn out than all this.

In 2009 there will be people saying 'I can still play my beloved HD DVDs on my beloved Toshiba player, so it ain't over yet'...

It'll be over, because no one will be putting out titles on their beloved format anymore.

Perhaps that is why they are going to release the original three in the Autumn, perhaps along with the fourth also on BD.

Holy smokes! That's a near perfect storm of pro-BD stuff!

If this pans out, that's it for HD DVD. Some accelerated decline and Universal could even move that schedule up.

Greetings from Las Vegas!

I was just at the Fry's on LV Blvd and there was a lot of activity around the HD discs.

This Fry's has equal shelf space for both formats, though the end cap has a huge Sony TV and BD player plus a rotating display of yet more BD discs. Seems like they have a preference!

It is apparent that folks are picking up titles from both formats for demonstration purposes.

Anyways if I get a chance I will post info as I hear it during the show. My work commitments may make it a little slow going but feel free to ask me to look for specific details from BD associated demonstrations and booths at the show.

Cheers!

Well since we're talking about rumors, this is from a just compiledHD DVD list...

Universal

January
Mummy Returns
Sting
Brokeback Mountain
Half Baked

February
Hollywoodland

As for the release date, it is not yet decided
American Pie Presents: A Naked Mile
American Pie
Battlestar Galactica
Black Dahlia
Blues Brothers
Conan the Barbarian
Dante's Peak
Idlewilde
Ocean's Twelve
The Return
Scoop
40 Year Old Virgin
Another suspect list considering Ocean's Twelve is owned by Warner, not Universal. Yesterday someone posted a list of titles that New Line would allegedly be announcing, including Blade Runner, which is not a New Line title.

I think these HD-DVD fanboys need to at least do a little research. If they're going to post a fictitous list, they ought to at least get the studios correct.

When I saw Blade Runner I was about to go and reserve on on Amazon, but then I realised that it was on the New Line list, New Line didn't exist when Blade Runner came out in theatres!

That O12 probably IS a typo on the list because that title is under "Ocean's 11 - Warner" on it but says Universal (I double checked).
The list is not by a fanboi

The Blade Runner by New Line on the post you mention was a typo by the poster cus Blade Runner is listed correctly as Warner on the list. While the other New Line titles (same ones) on his post are listed as New Line on the list. He missed some NL too btw. :-P

but as I said, this is all rumor for now

probably should edit O12 out

Zvi, you meant getting everything including my list of Unis HD DVDs? Hope you didn't think those were BDs, I just wrote those as example of a possible list of "overwhelming" Uni titles HD DVD might get that I saw on a list. I hope (for their sake ) they have more Uni than that in the pipeline
