Question Portable Blu-ray player?

We love to watch movies. We even have a portable DVD player so the kids can watch movies on the road. Will there be a portable blu-ray player available soon? We don't currently have a blu-ray player yet, but will probably get one in the future and would love to have a portable player as well a home theater player.

please use the search function

currently there is not one out and afaik one has not been announced. sorry, but portable video screens do not realize the resolution enhancement so it will be a while before they are available.

Take it easy on the guy. Its only his F-I-R-S-T post. I know its frustrating that alot of new people don't use the search, but just let them know about it. Especially if its their first time. If they become a repeat offender then give them a hard time.

Yet, there are no portable blu-ray players. But there are some small HDTVs that range from 13 to 20 inches (for an example). The problem is, how will it be possible to watch a mini HDTV with a blu-ray player while driving? Would you be able to tell the difference in PQ if the screen size is that small?

I have read threads like this many times on other sites and some on this one. Not sure why people keep saying what's the point on such a small screen, but that is not the point.

The point is - portability. Having all those blu's and no way to watch them on the run (unless you own a bd ready laptop), vacation, kids in the car while you drive - it would seem kinda pointless don't you think?

Laptops - 17" screens already run 1080p resolution and play bd's just grand. It's only a matter of time before the screen is shrunk and there is a portable player on the market. The only problem then is getting them down in price to be affordable to the general public.

So, please remember, it's not about watching 1080p on a 7" screen. It's being able to take that 7" screen and your dvd sized portable blu player with you wherever you may go, along with your blu collection.

More than likely, the portable bd players that will come out will allow the player to hook into a full size plasma, lcd or like television - to become a stand alone bd player as well.

It’s not necessarily a question of quality but of purchasing one type of disc (BD) and playing it at home and on the road.

We shall see when it does come out. I'll probably get one too if I can afford it.

While there are no portable BD players yet, I'd be more interested in a device like the digEplayer that I rented on a recent plane trip that I can store copies of my BD movies on so that I can take it on the road.

http://www.digeplayer.com/products.php

This thing was so worth the rental price on flights longer than four hours. I was able to watch The Kingdom and then let the kids watch Enchanted. It had a ton of other recent movies and music.

Now that's the kind of device that I'd like, one that lets me put the movies I want on it (either from my BDs or DVDs) so that I don't have to lug around discs.

I think it is a possible deal breaker. We want BD to be everywhere so that it will be in ALL the consumers minds and they will want it. Otherwise, there is a risk that it becomes like laserdisc. At least portability will offset some of the current disadvantages; like price.

Not having a portable player is the only thing stopping me from jumping fully into Blu-ray. If Blu-ray is to succeed as a main stream format they are going to need to release a portable player. Especially with Disney releasing all their animated movies. Which I would love to pick up, but without a portable player for my daughter to watch them on long car rides or when I have to drag her into work with me, I'm staying away from buying them.

I really need this. otherwise I have to double dip all BD titles with DVD. There are about 50+ that I won't able to play on my portable player.

lucky. I'd love to use my laptop, but my laptop than can play BD is 20 inch and weight 8kg - but very powerful. I wish I also get the smaller one.
