Default Digital Playground, The Porn Studio, can't publish on BD?

According to Heise Online, Digital Playground was denied replication time for his companie's releases.

Quote:
Since January 10 the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, the largest trade fair of the United States' pornography industry, has been taking place at the Sands Expo and Convention Center in Las Vegas right next to the consumer-electronics trade fair CES. Despite the Blu-ray Disc Association having, on account of current forecasts for player sales, only recently at the CES declared itself the winner in the battle to succeed the DVD the decisive thrust in the fight to the death between Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD may yet for all that come from the AVN. There Joone, founder of the company Digital Playground and director of extremely popular HD porn movies, declared that his company would from next week on be publishing movies on HD DVD on a regular basis.

This is a U-turn for Joone, who at last year's AVN event had declared his support for the Blu-ray Disc format. Asked about his change of attitude by heise online the director responded: "Sony wants me to publish my films on HD DVD." He then went on to explain that he had in fact wanted to publish his movies on Blu-ray Disc, but that all Blu-ray Disc copying facilities in the United States had refused to cooperate. The companies had unanimously declared that Sony had threatened to withdraw their Blu-ray licenses should they stoop to making HD copies of pornographic films, Joone said. Even though he would have liked to supply with his movies the predominantly male group of Playstation 3 players he had been forced by events, he declared, to switch to HD DVD. The game console has the ability to play Blu-ray Discs built into it. The director said he was puzzled by Sony's attitude, which, he noted, had also turned out to be counterproductive in the case of Betamax.
I think it has more to BD replicators, what few there are, are just clogged up with bookings until 2008. Replicators are more inclined to do more pressings than to stop-and-load for small batches.

I guess Joone didn't hear about the company Erick Hansen had just started.

Already there are sites claiming that porn will never be on BD. If the BDA is smart, they'll nip this right now as I don't see denying any porn studio a good pr move at this particular time. Granted, porn won't have the effect it once had in the VHS days, but it will have an effect nonetheless.

I can't believe what he's saying is true. If it is, then damn Sony for making a big mistake at an important time in the format's infancy...

Who buys porn anyway? I thought the Internet was the delivery method of choice these days.

I would like to hear Sony's reply however. I would hate for any company to make moral judgements for me.

This is probably more to do with BD capacity, and the big 7 studios taking the bulk of it to make real movies, Sony has probably told them to wait until they have a few more lines running for the BD50. MEI is still ramping up BD50 production, so I would have thought that the owner of the porn just took it in the wrong way, he was probably told that they can't make the number of BDs he wanted, rather than they won't make them.

I do want to see quality pr0n on BD. And, yes I have my doubts about pr0n in true hidef resolution. Granted the nature of the product there are lots of closeups and unless the actress has perfect features it's not exactly the best thing to see those features in hidef. I mean skin, etc...
However, I would be seriously upset @ Sony and anyone else denying pr0n to BD, simply because of the 1st amendment.

Agreed, especially since so much of it is absolutely free and almost unavoidable.

Well Vivid still say they're going with BD first, so this article seems like BS to me.

I believe porn on Blu-ray is avaliable right now in Japan, so I doubt any moral grounds here.
I think BD got a lot on its plate right now. Demand for upcoming PS3 games is overpowering enough, nevermind those exclusive studios, and then there is the non-exclusive studios!

The porn studios will get thier output, but may have to wait.
