.AVI files playing on a PS3? - Blu-ray Forum

Does anyone know how I can burn some .avi files onto a cd or DVD and play them on a PS3? I tried burning one as a VCD but the PS3 did not recognize it... Any help would be greatly appreciated... Im using Nero 8 Ultimate Edition

If the AVI files is encoded as DIVX, just create a folder called VIDEO (must be all caps) and put the file in there. Then transfer the file into a CD/DVD/BD-R, a flashdrive, or an external HDD.

The PS3 can't do VCD. It can read and play MPEG-2 files.

I have some avi videos, but I can't get the PS3 to recognize them. They are on a SD card in a folder titled VIDEO.

How do I know if the are DIVX encoded? If they aren't, is there anyway to play them?

Your media player (not necessarily Windows Media Player) may be able to show you what the codec of the AVI file is. If not, there are utilities out there that can tell you. GSpot Codec Information is a great utility for this; it's part of the K-Lite Codec Pack.

If the codec is not DIVX/PS3 friendly, you need to convert it.

Any thoughts are the best program to do the conversion? Preferably for a Mac?
