Default R.I.P. Uncompressed PCM (2006-2008)

I'm the first to admit that it's incredibly difficult, nearly impossible, to tell the difference between TrueHD, DTS HD MA, and uncompressed PCM, but for some reason, I always felt better listening to uncompressed audio. There was no worrying about compression or Dial Norm as with TrueHD, this way, the only way to grade an audio track was by the mix of the film's sound mixers and editors. There was something to be said about Blu-ray's ability to put the whole studio master on it's 50 gig's. But now with Sony's virtual completion of PCM to TrueHD transition, and BV/ Disney starting (Enchanted, National Treasure 2) starting to move from PCM to TrueHD, I honestly think by the end of the year, uncompressed PCM will be no more. Farewell, my friend.

Could be. Who but The Shadow knows for sure. For some reason, I find that DTS HDMA tracks "seem" more dynamic on a consistant basis, but there are a couple DD True HDMA tracks that are equally as dynamic.

I would have been happy with PCM tracks forever, but the studios are worrying about bandwidth and capacity concerns in the future when they load up every BD with all these Profile 1.1 and 2.0 extras. I bet the smaller independent studios continue to use PCM for a little longer.

I don't see why PCM should limit what they put on the disc. Get the picture and audio at its best and then put what you can to fill the disc.

I prefer PCM over DTS-HD or TruHD, it sounds more compleat to me, Im sure there all the same but TruHD has some volume issue's. it lower than PCM, they need to start adding a DB boost or something, DTS does it
I hope studios dont get rid of PCM, its the most compleat, its not compressed, its untouched, so please keep on using it.

if no lpcm than dts hd should be the standard. i don't think they should make room for crappy gimmicky extras, they should make the pq as good as they can. every single bit of bandwith not for audio should go to video.
