Default Best HDTV under $700

I'm looking to get an HDTV under $700.

My dad got a 32" HDTV from Wal-Mart a few years ago for $400. It's good for television, but sucks for HD movies (always looks to dark). I think he got screwed. I don't want that to happen to me.

I'd like to get a 32" inch HDTV (or larger) for under $700. Which is the best?

Best Buy has there Insignia brand that seem pretty good for the price. My friend has a 42" plasma and absolutly loves it. It's 720p and he picked it up for $750 + tax. I myself am a believer in you get what you pay for.

It depends...is size or a brand-name more important to you? You could have a decent sized Vizio or Insignia...or a small Sony or Samsung.

Oh...and has your dad tried calibrating his TV?

Dynex® - 32" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

Insignia® - 37" 720p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

Dynex® - 42" 1080p Flat-Panel LCD HDTV

I have the 32" Dynex and have been impressed. For the price it has been great.

Yeah, I've been over this is several other threads. I did more research and found similar complaints about the TV. The TV just sucks. Symphonic is the brand.

Vizio is horrible(actually Walmart's brand). Insignia is made by LG. And best LCD for under $700 would be a 32" Samsung, if you can find them on sale, or as an open box item.

The Memorex 32 in. LCD isn't bad for the price at 649.99. 1,200:1 real contrast isn't horrible.
Resolution is 1366 x 768 = 720P

the vizio or insignia is way better than that, but for $700 and not over the Insignia is your best bet.

Though i would save and go for a 1080p set.

For my den, I purchased a Soyo 32" LCD HDTV (720p/1080I) from Walmart for $699, and the picture is fantastic. I keep my PS3 on my 50" Sony SXRD, but I achieved similar picture quality and detail when testing the PS3 on the Soyo. It's a pretty unknown brand, but it has a pretty quick response time of 8ms, HDMI input, and really good color and black levels.

Here it is:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...uct_id=4956139

It's good for watching Dish HD while making dinner or relaxing on the couch, and at $700 it didn't break the bank. If we really want to settle in and watch a movie, we head for the HT room.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!

The crappy Symphonic HDTV that my dad got has made me a little paranoid about brands. And if I can avoid it, I really don't even want to go to Wal-Mart.

I think I'm gonna wait until we get closer to Christmas (black Friday maybe) and see if any deals come up.
