My lady friend is very anxious for this title on BR. Is there any word on when and if this will hit the format anytime soon?

I guarantee in December. 2007 is Titanic's 10th anniversary (WOW! Has it been this long?).

I wish you had been right. It's 2011 and no blu ray yet.

Wow, I bet in another four years we'll all be looking back to when we were all certain that Titanic would be released in 2012 after the cinematic re-release, and whimper at how wrong we were.

I just picked up the special edition director's cut. I think with the Paramount decision to go HD-DVD and Fox going Blu Ray, it will take a while. Paramount owns the US distribution rights and Fox has rights to the rest of the world, so they would have to release competing versions. That would complicate things. But a HD transfer does exist, it was used for this last release.

Anyway, it looks and sounds pretty good on a BDP1200 using the Reon upconverting chip and an analog six channel connection.

yup - the DTS:ES 6.1 track is a massive upgrade over the 5.1 track on the original DVD release.

don't expect it is to be released in US in BD though. the distribution right is with paramount AFAIK. International right with FOX (the company that makes the movie)

I wouldn't have my hopes set to high for a release anytime soon. I think the SE DVD is the best were gonna see it for a few years (maybe the 15th Anniversary!). But it would be awesome to have this in 7.1 uncompressed sound.

It will be released in 2012, after the theatrical re-release in 3D.

Actually, Titanic was co-financed by FOX and Paramount. I just pulled the DVD off my shelf and it looks as if Paramount has the DVD distribution rights as I see a url on the back cover read: www.paramount.com/homevideo.

This is unfortunate, as Paramount doesn't include uncompressed tracks on their HD releases.
