Default What to do with SD DVDS?

I have a bunch of SD DVDs that have been released on Blu Ray. Should I make the swap or just buy movies I don't yet own on Blu Ray?
Is it worth putting down the money to upgrade them?

I'm going to sell them to people at work, but only going to replace the movies with lots of visual effects right now. Unless theres a good deal on one.

I'm left wondering what to do with my SD DVD collection also. I have re-bought 17 movies on Blu that I had already purchased on DVD, but I have limited storage space in my apartment and my DVD racks are getting full. I'm thinking of just selling off my entire DVD collection now, even movies that haven't been released on Blu yet.

Find a MovieStop. You can trade them in there for Cash or Store Credit.
They offer good deals as well. If you trade in X amount of DVDs you get an extra % added to the trade in value or $5-10 added if you reserve a movie.

since 98% of mine are in a binder, I am just going to give them to my brother. The others I might trade on here for blu's.

+1

I have done that last year in oct, given up near 200+ sd dvd. But not equal value as you trade-in with hddvd. Values vary from title. But more titles more bucks u get in trade in value and u can get blu-ray trade-in with store credit at moviestop. I also traded all of my hd-dvd back in november, which is more value than sddvd, thus i get more blu-ray result of trade-in at moviestop.

Anyway, to person who ask question what to do with sddvd.

I strong recommend stick w Blu. dont buy sd dvd unless your favorite tv show. But it is totally up to you with sd dvd by trade it away or sell it or keep it and upgrade blu-ray. But don't try buy dvd and blu. Remember, save $ by just buy blu-ray without buying dvd.
---------------------------------------------------

I don't have many movies on sddvd. All I have:
CSI: 1-7 seasons, CSI:Miami 1-5 Seasons, CSI: NY 1-3 Seasons, Lord of the Rings saga, Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Saga, Star Wars Saga, Indiana Jones Adventures(2003). In last 1 years purchase on dvd (movies exclude tv series): ZERO.

That's what I've been doing... upgrading when the price is right, then selling the SD discs to coworkers. They seem happy to get the DVD's at $5 or $10 each, and I can upgrade movies for $5 or $10 each depending on the purchase price and how much I can get for the regulars.

It's working like a charm for now.

I sold nearly all mine at a place called the Princeton Record Exchange. I got about 4 dollars a disc, and had about 45 discs I sold. There are three more in my collection, that I am trying to sell on ebay for a lot(they'e out of print).

Depends on the movie. If you have a great movie that you love, that's already on Blu-ray, if the BD is cheap, keep both. If it's expensive, try and sell it. ALWAYS keep movies which you don't think will be released onto Blu-ray until ages.

Thanks for the advice. I think thats the plan I'll stick to.

I'm hoping John Adams comes out on Blu Ray. I called Moviestop and they said it isn't listed. I may have to go SD with that. Charlie Wilson's War I really want on Blu Ray. I'll just hold out for a few more months and see what is announced.

I am a recent "gone blu" person and have several hundred DVD's...movies, TV series, and anime series...I have started buying the things I would watch more frequently on Blu-Ray if they have good PQ and AQ. Otherwise, whatever new is coming out, I will likely buy Blu then SD now. I just can't see after spending a fortune on what I have switching over. The only other way I'd do it is if it were for some really good deals like BOGO, or $5-$15 on half.com or ebay...some such thing.

Forget ebay, you'll be lucky to make a couple of bucks on them. Selling to friends and co-workers for 4 or 5 bucks would work. Just hope they don't hate you for it when they discover blu-ray for themselves.

I have yet to sell off any of my duplicate DVD's but I want to because they are substandard. I'd take DVD over VHS any day of the week, but ugh.

Before blu-ray I had no idea how poor the transfer was on some of those DVD's. "A Christmas Story" is a prime example. I love the movie and bought the DVD. Now I see what a utterly muddy piece of crap that was. It was akin to poor broadcast quality. The blu-ray version is one of those HD DVD versions converted over to BD. Compared to the DVD, it is fantastic.

"I double dog dare you!"

SD DVD are almost worthless...I sold a bunch at a garage sale, but could only sell a few for $5 each...had to go to $3 each, or 2 for $5. Still couldn't get rid of them all.

Took them to trade in, but most were only worth 25 cents! They wouldn't even take Terminator 3 so I left it on a trashcan outside the store. Took me trading in 19 DVD's for 1 Blu-Ray.

What I hate most is that I know my Blu-Ray's will be just as worthless in about 4-5 years...

It is difficult for me to imagine blu-ray sitting in a Walmart bargain bin for 5 bucks. But if you get your money worth and use out of it then it isn't such a loss.

Unfortunately the only way to get decent money for DVDs is to sell them in bulk.
