Default Upconverting DVD player recommendations

I recently purchased a PS3 and thought it would upscale my dvds So now I'm in the market for an upconverting DVD player.

Inputs available: 1 HDMI left, optical or coaxial sound

I'd like to get a 5 disc upconverting dvd player, does anyone have any recommendations? horror stories?

I have a huge collection of regular DVD's and I'd rather find a good upconverting dvd player than try to replace the entire collection (just replace my favs).

I hear Oppo makes good units... or the KiSS DP-600 kicks ass. I have one of those. It will upconvert all the way to 1080p via HDMI. They're only available in Canada though so Oppo may be your best bet. By the way, the Kiss unit is a media player that does a whack of stuff so it sells at 749.00 up here which may be a tad high for you.

Oppo's a good one, I just got their latest model with HDMI, 1080p upconversion and all that. My only complaint it the absence of USB or network play. Other than that it's good.

P.S. although it does have macroblocking issues with Sammy DLPs and requires calibration. At least the best to my understanding.

I have a recommendation for you....

Take deep cleansing breaths....

And WAIT!!!

Use the search, and you will see how sony is finally unlocking the up-convert function in its latest SDK

The PS3 has the functionality, it just isn't turned on yet.

Order one of their upscaling DVD players. They're the best ones under $2000.

I love my Cyber Home, but of course, ever since the FBI nailed their operations for failure to pay licencing fees, they are hard to find

I keep it hooked-up to watch imported DVDs, since its is a region free player.

Oppo's a region free too. Unlock is done via remote.

Actually no, he meant 2000$ While oppo does cost 230 (or 200 for older model) it does upconversion on par with a lot more expensive models.

The Oppo does Macro Blocking on numerous displays....not just the Samsung.

The Onkyo Sp 1000 at 2k list 1400.00 street is at least a 15%^ improvement in direct comparison.....and its on par with 6.5k and more players for cd/sa-cd also.

If your only willing to spend 200.00 or so... then yes its a good player when you not playing titles that have Macro Blocking.

Macro Blocking has a lot more to do with which sd dvd titles than it does displays....and most displays will show Macro Blocking if its in the dvd.
