Default A Real Complaint about Warner Bros.

Having seen in another thread how rdjam on the AVS forum is complaining about new WB releases for HD-DVD being delayed for Blu-Ray (so that BD-J can be implemented) and even going so far as to start a petition to try and get WB to release them to HD-DVD as it's unfair to make them wait...

Well, don't BD users have a similar and more relevant complaint that the lackluster quality of HD-DVD is holding back BD's full potential on WB dual releases? After all, don't they basically take the HD-DVD friendly master and bung it onto BD? And almost every review of WB BD titles say it is "identical" to the HD-DVD one (I wonder why?).

If we were sad and pathetic as the HD-DUD pack, this could warrant a petition to WB... why should BD's full potentital be held back just because HD-DVD?

I hope they have done a seperate blu-ray transfer for THE DEPARTED, but I won't hold my breath.

Talking

Jack, I started a poll to that very effect on AVS.

It asked whether members would want and ask neutral studios to re-encode for BD instead of using the L.C.D. of hd-dvd. The choices were something like:

1. yes, higher bitrate is always better
2. I dont care
3. no, 30 mbps is enough and
4. No, cos that will take away resources from hd-dvd.

A fair and balanced poll, I reckon.

No prizes for guessing how the voting went

ooh ooh, lemme guess...it went pro HD DVD...what do i win
AVS is such a waste of time to do anything on anymore. you'll get banned for talking about Blu-ray and the whole board is filled with HD DVD fans that act very childish when they defend it.

Actually, worded like this? I think this side of the coin's complaint is far more valid.

That certainly will be emphasized as the months roll on and BD sales continue to leave HD-DVD in the dust.

It's funny how someone like you can post the facts quick, neat, and succinctly whereas an rdjam can write mini-phone books across several threads of stuff that's incoherent at best.

As always: I guess the facts speak for themselves.

I have made this complaint before.

It is clear that they use pretty much the maximum bitrate they can on HD DVDs - it stands to reason that longer films would benefit from VC-1 at higher bitrate on a BD50.

I'd rather it be AVC/MPEG4 on a BD50, but honestly: Any way to get the best works for me.

I'd like to start a petition to prevent rdjam from creating any more petitions or polls. Anyone interested?

As long as rdjam's petition/poll is FUD-ed up as usual (which I am quite sure it will be), I am in too.

Bring it, rd
