Default Blu-ray filling the screen? 16:9

I finally got a BlueRay player (PS3), and finally played a movie for the first time last night. I was extrememly dissappointed to see the movie in a letterbox format. I have read some of the forums on this site, and it doesn't seem like anyone sells Blueray discs that fill the screen? When I watch movies in HD on HBO and Showtime, they DO fill the screen which is a much more enjoyable experience. If I had known that BlueRay was going to be all letterbox, I would have just stuck with regular DVD's.

Any suggestions? I know zooming is out, as that doesn't look right.

Here's a thread wth a list of movies that will fill the screen List of Fullscreen 16:9 1.66-1.85:1 Blu-rays (it's slightly outdated there are more). Or you can look at this website's movie database for movies in 1.66, 1.78, or 1.85 aspect ratios (those will fill your 1.78 shaped 16:9 screen)

The last time I had Showtime-HD, they aired a lot of OAR (Original Aspect Ratio) films. I guess they decided to take after those HBO S.O.B.'s...

Here are a few that fill up the screen:

Predator
Stargate

There are others, but these are the ones that I have. That said, do more research in here for "black bars" and you'll find more answers to your question. In a nutshell, if all you think you're gaining from going to Blu-Ray is the elimination of black bars, and that you should go back to SD DVD, then I think that you may need to do more research into what Blu-Ray is all about.
