Default Do you buy blu-ray's just for the hell of it??

Seriously, I have seen grown men have Ice age, Open season and Ratatouille in their blu-ray disc collections. Are you people that OCD you have to own every bluray even if you dont like the movie???

I only buy the blurays of movies I enjoy..but I just find it weird that grown men are buying these kiddy films. Seems odd.

How is it weird? They might enjoy those movies as well. Doesn't mean they just bought them for the hell of it. I only buy the ones I loved the movies of.

I've bought some movies that were just 'OK' in my book only because they were on sale just because they were on sale.

OP MUST list his movies now

I have a lot of classics (mostly classics and catalog titles actually) and I happen to have Ratatouilli, and I'm waiting to get Cars......... it's because I have a kid..... sorry to disappoint you

What movies do you have??? Everyone has different tastes..... I could go my entire life without ever seeing/seeing again....

POTC
LOTR
Harry Potter
Transformers
Superbad
Iron Man
Dragon Ball zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

to name a few..... Although I will rent Iron Man to give it a fair shake (of course I rented Cloverfield to give it a fair shake, and I wish I would have walked into oncoming traffic rather than watch that movie!!!)

EDIT.... just saw your sig: "Last Blu Ray Purchased, Resident Evil Extension" You couldn't pay me to watch that..... give me Cars/Ratatouili any day!!!!!!!!

I like a lot of Disney movies, I only buy movies I can watch over and over (not necessarily every week or month), but I don't buy movies very often because a lot of movies i can only enjoy once. Ratatouille, Cars and Ice Age are in our collection.

I have no children, but own quite a few classic (pre-Beauty and the Beast)Disney films, mainly because I enjoy the films, a few simply for collector's purposes...

On another note, this might come as a surprise, but at one point animation/G-Rating did not immediatly mean children's film.

Also family films were not "dumbed down"... compare Swiss Family Robinson, Sleeping Beauty or the original Willy Wonka to any of today's "family films" (there are a handful of exceptions, PIXAR being the main one) and you might see one of my main arguements as to the cause of the dumbing down of our country.

Sorry, just wanted to make a point and started into a rant.

I wonder about this Pixar fascination as well. It was interesting when one or two animated features would be released in a year, but now it seems that we have been inundated with wise-cracking, digitally-rendered, talking animals. Some of these movies are good, but some are just another vehicle for marketing toys, t-shirts, lunch boxes, etc. I do not buy BD's just to have them. I can't afford to do that right now. The interesting thing is that my wife and I are expecting are first child next March, after 18 years of marriage. I am interested to see how my BD-buying habits will change when are baby enters the picture.
I don't really care if people (grown-ups) like to buy "kids movies," but I don't buy them. I have very few kid films in my DVD/BD collection. But there are a few that I think you just have to have if you are a movie buff.

Well I highly recommend you rent Ratatouille (Blu-Ray) before setting your mind in stone. Not only is it great reference material I also found the movie not childish at all and quite entertaining.

I like that Pixar has established a trend of releasing just one movie per year, sometime during the summer. Since they always tend to make good movies, it's kind of nice to have the new Pixar movie to see each year.

That being said, I despise all the imitations (Shark Tale, Ice Age, Antz, Barnyard, etc).

Things only change if you let them...... we find our son (now 8 months old) a good reason to go out and do exciting things..... he's been to concerts (outdoor only.... we're not child abusers!) and love to go for more walks etc....

as far as blu-ray, I can't comment, new house and other things have slowed my movie buying, not our son necessarily........

P.S. 18 years of marriage??? 1st kid??? you've got a patient woman right there!!!!

Different people like different things - is it really that hard to understand?

And you know the old saying:

"People who buy movies based on video games shouldn't throw stones"

Its funny because I think about every few months there's a thread like this I come across. To answer your question the way you would like to hear it. I just like having a big blu ray collection to make people like you mad. No I don't care about the picture quality or sound quality. I just like to say I'm better than anyone else who does not have at least as many Blu rays as me.

Just because they're grown men means they're not allowed to like Ice Age, Open Season, and Ratatouille?

Like you I only buy blu-rays movies I enjoy. Oh wait I guess not because I bought Ice Age and Ratatouille.
