Default TV and PS3 Theft Prevention. HELP!!!

So I will be attending college next year and will have one room mate. I know for a fact I will be locking my door every time I step foot out of my dorm, however, I can't be 100% sure my room-mate will. So I was wondering if anyone had some ideas on how to set up theft prevention or some type of insurance plan just in case, god forbid, someone stole my 40'' lcd and ps3+accesories and movies/games. I was looking at this....http://www.comprotec.com/products/products.html but Im not sure if that is safe enough.

Help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Never heard of that device... but sounds pretty interesting.

As far as insurance goes, you should check with the college as far as some kind of "rental type insurance" they have or what you can get. This definitely covers theft.

Other than that I would probably try and put at least the PS3 in a shelf that has doors so no one will instantly know you got one... and maybe see if you can mount that tv on the wall, I doubt someone will have the time to take that one down. Or just talk to your roommate that he is allowed to play the PS3 and watch sweet Blu-ray movies IF he continues to lock the door everytime!

Just my 2 cents...

Yeah I would love to have a cabinet with a lock on it, but the dorms already come prefurnished and have no room for that. Also, I cannot mount the TV on the wall, its against dorm policy. But I will def. get insurance, I just dont want to lose all the saved data on my PS3.

When I get an apartment I will definitely buy a locking entertainment center and a wall mount

see if you can add a rider on your parents' home-owner's insurance to cover all valuables.

if you're worried about PS3 saved data back it up once every few months or however you wish to a small external HDD (one you can put away out of sight) then if the PS3 is stolen, you're insured plus you have backups

I would definitely get some sort of insurance. I was at a party once and I saw someone straight up take a PS3 and ran out of the dorm with it.

I've got all my saved games in my pocket right now. I've got a keychain USB drive that's 8gb that I only store my saved games on. I don't have any of the other game data/downloads/other junk from my PS3. It's a great way to go because you know you will never lose it.

I've also got a seperate external hard drive as a secondary backup that's nowhere near as often, but still done on a semi-regular basis. It covers both bases in case of failure.

If your dorm is like the dorms I was in, they will be cinder-block walls painted white with no where to hide the PS3...

get insurance and back-up the thing frequently to a portable drive
If it makes it through the 1st year, you need to keep your roommate with you until you leave the dorms!

If you get the chance, see if you can get a single room...having a doc help you out with a little note is always helpful (scent and dye allergy?)
