Default Does this ever happen to anyone else online?

I need to share this with other people. Last night I was playing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith online with random people in random matches. I join this person's match who instantly starts blurting obsceneties that go beyond mere trash talk. I let it pass for the time being.

The song begins and he keeps going making up his own words to "Dream On" where all of the lyrics are about "sucking balls", I suppose this is to throw me off. The match is face-off, best of 3. It's close but I win the first song. I lose the second song because by now he's starting to get to me. I won the third song for the win just barely at the end. Immediately after the match, he calls me the N-word. Mind you, I haven't even used my headset anywhere during the match.

Does this crap happen to anyone else? I'll openly admit that the N-word doesn't offend me itself, but what does offend me is that people go online to play and use it all they want. I've played Gears of War on Xbox live multiple times and have played with clans that talk like a bunch of skinheads. I post my story on here with the hopes that humanity is not dead in the realm of online gaming. I know deep down I shouldn't let this crap bother me, but what the hell is wrong with people?

Sorry for the huge post, I hate do leave them this big by the way.

It's all that happens to me, which is why I pretty much stay away from online games without the option to mute. It's a good feature when you're friends with those around you, but the Internet provides a layer of anonymity that allows everyone to turn into a klansmen the second they get killed or lose a match. Reminds me of every time I step into a public restroom stall.

Yeah happens all the time. Guaranteed first thing i do when i play online is mute everyone yapping.

Took a couple of goes on COD4 last week before i figured out how to do it and some prick from manchester was just continually yapping shit ALL the way through the match.

Very well said. It never ceases to blow my mind that people do that sort of thing. And who thinks to take a marker with them to write on the bathroom wall, or worse yet roller coaster rides? Morons like that almost completely kill the fun of online gaming.

There are days when I really miss not having voice chat in the PS3 version of Rock Band, but stories like this remind me that it's not all beer and skittles.

People are jerks on the internet because there's no one there to stop them. It's like the rules of civilization just don't apply there.

That said, I'll be enjoying the heck out of having voice chat in Rock Band 2 come this fall with the many friends I've developed over the past year. Randoms may cuss like sailors, but you can pick your friends.

I don't care about what people say.

What drives me bananas the most are people that don't say anything, but have their headset on with their TV blaring so you hear everything twice!!

I am probably one of those people and I will tell you why. It is because COD4 (for instance) does not have any option to turn off voice chat entirely so I'm forced her hear people talking, their cursing and playing gangster rap in the background through my primary speakers. This does not add anything positive to my game playing ambiance.

So my solution for this is I simply keep a USB headset plugged in and leave it on the floor. I don't use it. I simply only have it hooked up so I don't have to hear people screaming over the sound effects all the time. And, BTW, even though I have my sound effect volume turned all the way up and the voice volume turned all the way down the voice volume is still entirely overpowering. In fact, I can hear sounds from my headset all the way over at my playing position a good 10 feet away. I have the volume control on the headset turned all the way down too...

Until, one day, game developers make having a universal mute or voice chat off option available I will continue to do this.

Simple the more mainstream and the cheaper the cost of the playstation 3 will also mean a rise of the mindless sheep.

Right now the infection rate is very high and borderlining dangerous levels.

To evaluate the current level of infection of the mindless sheep go to
http://blog.us.playstation.com/ read the newest article and read the comments, if 90% of comments are lies or rumors /FUD then the rate of infection is high,
if > 80% but <= 79% of comments are lies or fictional rumors that are FUD the rate of infection is high.
if < 79% but >= 50% of comments are lies or fictional rumors that are FUD the rate of infection is medium.
if <49% but >=20% of comments are lies or fictional rumors that are FUD the rate of infection is Mild
if <19% but > 5% of comments are lies or fictional rumors that are FUD the rate of infection is low
if <5% but greater then or equal to 1% of comments are lies or fictional rumors that are FUD then the rate of infection is light
if <.9% but greater then or equal to 0 then the rate of infection is extinct
if <= 0 of comments are lies or fictional rumors that are FUD the rate of infection is clean, and thus the internet is safe to use again and you no longer must hover your hands on the mute button.

I hope you get a kick out of that... take it easy and remember only you can prevent the destruction of the English vocabulary.

I have actually read comments on the playstation blog and had to stop cause I was screaming SHEEP!! STU*** SHEEP!!! SHEEP!! while I was at work one day... my coworkers gave me a odd stare but left me to my bleeding brain.

Nah man...you aren't wrong. I avoid online gaming because people just don't know any better.

It's not what they are saying that is bothering you...it is that they are saying it.

They are complete listless dicks with no upbringing, no sense of right and wrong and they are stupid tough and crazy brave because they can't look you in the eye and say that shit to you.

Technology has made that little pencil necked geek what he is and not even 15 years ago, the jocks would have destroyed him and we metalheads would have laughed and dined on his flesh and our women would have giggled and put their cigarettes out on his dead bloody ass.
