Default Billy Bob Thornton MIGHT be the new Freddy Krueger

http://joblo.com/billy-bob-on-elm-st

Seems like an interesting choice. Thornton is certainly a great actor, but it will be so strange seeing a different actor other than Robert Englund playing Freddy.

What do you guys think?

I don't know on this one. Robert has always been freddy. I like Billy Bob and have not doubts he will do a great job. It's a coin toss for me.

There are iconic movie characters who can never be replaced. I firmly believe this is one of them.

This is stupid. Why remake the original??? Billy Bob Thornton is a great actor but its not that easy to replace a legend like Robert Englunds character. Of course Hollywood is going to use their overrated movie magic and try to make things work.

Default Billy Bob in Elm Street

So we know that Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes production company has plans to remake Wes Craven's horror classic A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. The entire movie would get the facelift that an appropriate budget would provide, including a new dream-dwelling mass murderer. But who could possibly replace Robert Englund as the iconic rake-handed Freddy Krueger?

How about Oscar-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton? It's just a rumor at this point -- but it was initiated by the original Freddy himself. Robert Englund was on the late night radio show Loveline last week to promote JACK BROOKS, MONSTER SLAYER (and discuss sex, I guess), and was inevitably asked about the NIGHTMARE reboot. And Englund stated that the last gossip he heard was that Thornton could be slipping on the sweater and burn makeup for the role.

Englund also claims he's not opposed to being replaced (as he says, he already made the movie), or the remake itself, since he feels it's the sort of movie that deserves a bigger budget for the dreamscape special effects (they ran out of money while making the first movie).

He needs to be the same character he played as Carl in Slingblade. He just invades teen dreams talking of french fried taters with mustard and forces the teens to watch Doyle's band play on the patio. MmmmmHmmmmmm.

I logged on JUST to say this is the DUMBEST EFFING IDEA EVER! Billy Bob sucks and cannot pull this role off.

I mean it sucks that Hollywood is re-hashing this film because they are no longer able to create anything new... But to do it with such a shitty actor is a bad idea.

Billy Bob is NEVER going to happen. Englund is just keeping his name out there.

I'm surprised he didn't say Johnny Depp.

Come on people! Do we really want Freddy to say

"I like Biscuits and Gravy, hm mmm"

But I feel Robert Englund is getting too old for the role of Freddy. Get someone that looks like him. I saw someone mention that one guy from Resident Evil Apocalypse, the one that spoke with a Russian Accent and got mauled by a Cerberus in the school....Zack Ward.

Dont they look similar?

A lot of people on other forums have been suggesting Ben Foster. I think that is awesome casting. He can certainly play a very convincing psycho (30 Days of Night and 3:10 To Yuma).

Sigh... I can't believe they are remaking all these movies still. How can something that is 20 some years old be remade... pure greed!

Billy Bob Thornton would be completely AMAZING as Freddie.

I think he's way method though....he might actually go on a killing spree, hacking up small children to prepare for the role.

Cool rumor though...I hope it holds water.
