Default Elf - Warners Blows Another one - BD25

Looks like Warner is messing up another BD Release. Elf will only be on a BD25 and most of the (excellent) supplements from the Infinifilm DVD are being dropped (including a great one hour documentary)...

This film deserves better and they could have cross promoted with Iron Man since Favreau directed..

Sigh...

Iron Man is from a different studio, unlikely to have cross-promotion on two titles being released by different studios a month apart.

If the movie looks good and sounds good, and does so with a BD25 then no harm. Just because it is a BD25 doesn't mean it is bad.

agreed. it's a comedy, so mostly dialog. so, the audio shouldn't be taking up much space. i think it could turn out fine.

I'm not one to limit myself to just "fine". I want the best possible presentation for all my movies on Blu-ray. Why wait for a double dip?

BD 25 is enough room for the film to have great picture and still carry 1-2 hours of bonus material those aren't ever high quality even on standard def either... so that is plenty of room.

A film of that length should only use say 17-20 so that leaves plenty for the extras.

I'm talking about the supplements. some people on these forums do like interesting documentaries, etc.

BD25 is the culprit in losing these things...

Have you ever seen this movie before?

What kind of documentary would you expect them to include?

"Inside the Mind of Will Ferrell"
or
"What is Christmas All About?"
or
"Elf: Fact or Fiction?"

I said could....much like what Daredevil is doing by at least mentioning Iron Man on a sticker for the BD release (as silly as that is)...

I just said it was unlikely. Besides Favreau doesn't quite have the cache yet.

It's Elf! Zero motion, low range on the soundtrack, and I can't remember and darks, much less blacks. Maybe they coulda used a BD-9 and we wouldn't know the difference.

First off, and I am going to be as nice as possible since people seem to not get this, THIS DISC MAY HAVE BEEN CREATED/ENCODED WHEN WB/NL WAS STILL SUPPORTING HD-DVD. Meaning they went by their limitations (or standards, whichever word would describe it).

Second, it's a short movie. A BD-25 is probably more than enough space.

This is actually a very good possibility as Josh seems to imply on the front page that it has a DTS-HD MA soundtrack (compared to Dolby Digital or Dolby TrueHD). New Line may have encoded it last year and decided to hold off until this year to take advantage of Favreau's "Iron Man".

Prepare to be wildly refuted by Lgans half page of bit-rate data. That will show you to be optimistic!!

Yes... OF DISCS THAT HAVE ALREADY COME OUT!!! When trying to explain to him that things don't change over night and we're still going to be getting discs not optimized for Blu-Ray, it's like talking to a brick wall. You can't make a person like that understand simple logic.

Yes, some titles that are coming out were never released on HD DVD. HOWEVER THEY WERE CREATED WHEN HD DVD WAS STILL AROUND AND SINCE WB DOES THEIR OWN IN-HOUSE ENCODES THEY WERE SET UP FOR HD DVD.
