Default Onkyo TX-NR906 receiver Thread

Onkyo TX-NR906

Is it worth it to get the Onkyo TX-NR906??? I love having the best I can get and price is not a issue, I am just wondering if it can be too much of a good thing

Buy! The Onk 905 was a great piece of equipment, the 906 probably won't run as hot meaning it's the bomb!

Then WTF are you buying an Onkyo? Buy an Arcam AVR 350.

I agree. If money is not an issue, you should be going separates.

The higher end Onkyo's have always run hot, and it would be interesting to see if they hae corrected it in the 906.

If money is truly no object, I would also recommend separates and would give serious consideration to the Integra DTC 9.8. It's a great pre/pro.

Why do so many people think that gear that runs hot is flawed and must be "corrected"? The 905 and other Onkyo amps probably run hot by design; provided they're within their design parameters, there's nothing to fix.

Agreed; as good as the 906 probably is, it won't be in the same league as a decent set of separates (e.g., the Denon Pre/pro + amp, at about $15k for the set, or the Denon pre/pro + 7 monoblocks for $$$$don't ask!)

If I was going separates, I wouldn't go with Denon either. I'd probably go with an Integra preamp and who knows what for the actual amp. I agree though that if you want the best, separates are the only option.

The 905 doesn't run hot? What's wrong with yours?

Yea, if price is not an issue, seperates or at least better receiver than Onkyo...

I agree with the separates comments. Either pick up the Integra 9.8 until something better comes along, and go with monoblocks if price isn't a problem.

Default Onkyo TX-NR906

Just wondering what peoples thoughts are on the Onkyo TX-NR906? I have the 805 in the shop under warranty but am awaiting it to be fixed. It was a refurbished unit so as soon as it fixed I may stick it on ebay and recoup some cash. I noticed crutchfield has the 906 on sale and I would love to go back to buying something new for less headache. From what I have read its much like the 805 and then some. Any thoughts?

My thought is, it's ridiculously expensive.

I have the 905 and if you can get a deal on it then get it if not I suppose you could wait but that would be painful. It's a great piece of gear. I'm not sure how the 906 compares.

I think that at that kind of price, a better receiver can be found. You might as well go separates at that kind of price. Emotiva makes a good pre-pro system.
