Smile Sony STR-DG820 Receiver Thread

I finally decided to upgrade my Audio Receiver to the Sony STR-DG820, anyone heard anything about them. Everything I read was positive from consumer reports and CNet. I have usually had Sony for many years for home audio and been very pleased. My biggest reason for getting it was the multiple HDMI hook ups (4 to be exact) and the Dolby True HD / DTS sound. Would love to hear if anyone else out there has one and what they think of it.
Thanks

That's a great receiver for the money.
List is $399, But Abt.com will sell it for $349 if you tell them you saw it at visualapex.com. I bought a STR-DG 810 from them last year, and they are a very reputable company.

I was looking at that unit myself, but opted for the STR-DG2100. The 820 is a nice bang for the buck receiver and will serve your needs well. Post your thoughts after you have had a chance to run it and hear it for awhile. Enjoy!!

Default SONY STR-DG820 doesnt give me DTS audio

I just bought the STR-DG820 to go along with SONY BDP-S350 Bluray player. I triple check everything in both devices specs before buying to be sure both support DTS and they do.

So i fired up 28 weeks later who has DTS HD 5.1 audio but the receiver play the movie in LPCM/PL IIx. I went through the BDP-S350 audio settings to be sure the DTS was on instead of the downsampled option.

So since everything checked out ok and ready to go in DTS, why the hell it is not playing in DTS when my previous receiver, a 6 years old JVC was playing in DTS???

Can it be because my speakers are too old (The ones coming with the JVC receiver) and/or the subwoofer is not connected yet cause the wire is not COAX and i can hook it for now?

Everything is in HDMI.

Set the HDMI Audio on the S350 to "direct" instead of "mixed"...

Default Sony STR-DG820 AVR problem

Hi,

I'm currently trying to resolve this problem.

Everything is running to my AVR through HDMI.

Right now my Rogers HD Box is connected to my avr through HDMI but it is not working. It has always been set up this way, but it's not working - no audio or video.

Things I've tried to solve this problem:
1. Switched cables around and its not the HDMI cable.
2. Re-set my HD Cable Box.
3. Cale Box on it's own works fine if connected only to the TV.

Anyone else run into this problem? What else do you suggest I try to fix this?

The way everything is currently set-up has been working for months but now all of a sudden it's not working.
