Default HDMI switcher...2 or 3 port

Just wondering if any of you have used a hdmi switcher. My tv display only has 1 hdmi input port. Since i have a PS3, DVD player with hdmi in/output, and thinking of getting the Xbox360..hence i want to run all my components via HDMI...there are quite a few HDMI Switchers out there..but not so sure of which one is good...My most concern is that this switcher has to be able to support 1080P on all its ports without any signal degradation...any recomendations? much thanks in advance.

There are many active and passive HDMI switches on the market. EBAY and some retail stores have some low cost HDMI switchers for around $100. The $200 and up switchers are better quality. Since the signal is digital you are either going to have a perfect picture and sound or if the switcher is very bad quality you will have anything from no picture and sound to digital artifacts once and a while.
In the analog world it is much more important to purchase high-end several hundred dollars worth of component cables and switches to minimize the picture quality loss. In the digital world some low quality cables and switches can perform just as good as the high end. The high end cables and switches in general will last many more years but the quality is not always better during everyday use. As long as the 0’s and 1’s on the low cost cables and switches are not being changed do to EMI/RFI inference and other properties then some lower priced items are good enough quality. Some really cheap cables are only good for 480P quality.

P.S.

In the Digital world if there is a problem with the switcher or cable you will know within a few seconds or a few hours.

If you were looking for one with a remote, you should give Gefen a look.

Default hdmi into dvi

My Tv does not have a HDMI port, but it does have a DVI, which I now use a HDMI-DVI adapter. My question is will this work with the Blu-Ray and how is the picture quality?
Thanks

Thats what I use, and it looks great, thats why my switcher switches the fiber as well, the hdmi/dvi to the TV, and the FO to the receiver.

Default HDMI switches on ebay

Does anyone have an opinion on these cheap HDMI switches from ebay: 3-port-HDMI-Switch-Switcher-Selector-w-Remote-3in-1out

Are they on par with the Monoprice switch?
Sound is not important, since I just need a switch in wait for a new receiver.

Is you DVI input HDCP compliant?

DVI looks exactly the same as HDMI

I recently had problems the other night when I took my PS3 to my brothers house...he has DVI in the back of his HDTV set and cable box...

I used the HDMI adaptor on his DVI plug to fit into the PS3...and no matter what, the system froze...

I tried to change the setting to something else....maybe component or even A/V and it didn't even switch...

this is something to keep an eye out on...it refused to play Ridge Racer 7 ...it would freeze sometime before the start of a race....

...however, when I brought it back home...it was as if nothing had happened...

Well maybe this is not what's happening, but since it works on your TV set

Does your brother's tv set have HDCP?

Another thing, before taking it next time, plug the AV cables and set your PS3 on your house to the regular 480 component or S-Video/composite, what lowest connection is on your brother's set (and AV cable that you have of course ) and go and hook it up at your brother's that way and see if it works, then add the HDMI and try to go up with the tests resolutions thing. Maybe it'll work?

Also could be the HDMI to DVI adapter etc.
(Also not related probably but there's a setting about automatic choosing of RGB or Yrb color)

(And for sure if the HDTV doesn't have HDCP the 1080p setting HDMI won't work)

I set my PS3 to AV and also the HDMI with AV because of the DVI/HDMI converter...

Ridge Racer 7 played but would freeze sometimes at the 1st load time after the game pops up....

I think it's the HDCP...I thought about this already and you bringing this up only makes sense then...

he has an older Hitachi HDTV...probably from 2003....maybe 2004...

Default Hdmi-dvi

Deciazulado,
I am sorry, I really do not know.
I have a mitsubishi model WS-65313.
The owners manual says:
MonitorLink/DVI - This is Mitsubishi-exclusive digital interface for the dispaly of high quality digital video signals from Mitsubishi products such as the HD-5000 HDTV Receiver/Controller. All video signals, both analog and digital are sent digitally to your Mitsubishi TV. Can also be used as a DVI imput for other compatible sources.
Note. The DVI-HDTV input terminals is complilant with EIA-861 standard and is not intened for use with personal computers.
The TV also has 1 DTV input.
Thanks,

Default HDMI switch and PS3

I have a Plasma that has 1 HDMI input. My system includes a Digital Cable Setop Box, Upscaling DVD player and now the PS3 with Blue Ray which I just received.

I was able to find a good HDMI Switch finally that worked with the PS3. This one worked with the PS3.

Like the Smart Scan feature which selects the HDMI sources for me when powered on.

First you can check Keydigital.com for HDMI switcher. We use them all of the time and have found them to have a high quality product.

And the current Xbox does not due HDMI out at all. It only has component out.
