Default Quick question about DTS-HD Master audio

If you bought a BD that has DTS-HD Master audio and don't have a receiver that can decode it, you are either stuck with 2 channel linear PCM or buy a receiver that has HDMI for audio? If true then it kinda sucks that you are watching a Bluray movie and stuck with 2 channel Linear PCM.

you will always be able to get the core. dts 5.1. if you have a player that can decode then all you need is a receiver that can output pcm audio or a player with analog outs to an old school receivers analog ins.

I was trying it on my PS3 and the movie is AVP. In the set up screen of the movie the background audio would be 5.1 since it shows it on front of my old receiver. When the movie starts, my receiver changes from "auto decode" to "unlock" and no sound comes out. Then I change the PS3 audio setting to Linear PCM and the receiver turns back on but only in 2 channel. When I go the the movie "set-up" and put it in French 5.1, the audio would be surround.

Ok, a few things.

What is your PS3 firmware version?
How are you playing audio for Blu-ray? HDMI or Optical?

The best way to enjoy DTS-HD MA using a PS3 is to update to the latest firmware, which will decode DTSHDMA to PCM 5.1, and then using HDMI to a PCM 5.1 receiver.

If you are limited to optical cables, then you can enjoy either DTS Core 5.1 @ 1.5Mbps or DTS-HD MA decoded PCM 2.0

I got the latest firmware which decodes DTSHDMA and ya, I am going out optical, to confirm that it does, when playing the movie I press the select button and it shows the bit rate and all the info on the screen and it says "DTS-HD-MA...Multi-channel.." etc. but no sound comes out. When I change to setting on the PS3 to Linear PCM, the info says "5.1 channel..."etc. and I only get 2 channel on my receiver and the receiver display "PCM [48khz]" I think I need a new receiver.
