Question How much are you willing to spend?

How much are you willing to spend a Blu-ray movie? I'm not talking about box sets. Just your average "new release".

Depends on what's good about it. I may order the collectors edition of Helvetica for my wife, shes a graphic designer, and that's $125. I spent more than that when I purchased my OOP Criterion Hard Boiled DVD.

Usually though I spend in the 20-30 range.

Arrow Why this poll?

I ask because Andy Parsons, chairman of the Blu-ray Disc Association, has said blu-ray prices will not go down until we start buying more discs. I argue that prices are too high (and good releases too rare), hence the low volume of sales. Amazon has recently bumped their sale price for discs up slightly. New releases seem to be more expensive this month.

Personally $20 is where I'll buy. I plan on waiting until retailers feel the need to move titles and drop the price. Then I'll buy like crazy.

It is not my intention to start a debate on basic economic theory so please hold those for a different thread.

I usually like going into a store and buying over amazon or other on-line retailers... So I pay more usually $25-30. $30 is about the max though.

It depends upon the title. Some titles I'll pay only 15 bucks for, or only as part of some 3 for 2 deal, while others I'll pony up 30 bucks to get it right away.

As for imports, a lot of those are blind-buys for me so I won't pay more than 25 for a disc because I have to pay for shipping costs as well. However on imports that are US titles that are not available yet I have ponied up nearly $40 to get them.

Price and value differ by title, but a high definition version of a movie I love is surely worth $30.

It's $9 to see in the theater and $30 to own forever.
Seems like a great deal to me.

i try to not spend more than $25, but w/the new pricing that seems to be coming for new releases, that may be difficult.

Typically, no more than $20, and most of mine have been purchased for ~$15. The most I paid (and was then refunded ) was $25+ for Iron Man from Tower, but that was only because I wanted it early (didn't work out too well) and because IMO, that movie was worth the extra $$. I'll probably pay similar for DK when released.
