The audio sucks... But seriously, looking at a still frame is not a good judgment of the technology, you need to watch the moving picture between true 1080p format and something upconverted |

There is no argument saying Blu Ray is better but what is intersting to me is that my old SD collection might actually look as good as some of the Blu Rays I own.
If they convert completely to 1920x1080 for each frame then that has to look very good. I can't wait to see this technology with my own eyes. |

Or it could make it worse. Those old shady BD transfers probably suffer from too much DNR. If it can correct the DNR, then perhaps it would benefit.

Uh ya your talking magic now. The DNR was added to the transfer itself on Blu's like Patton. |

it may be a step backward for you and others who already have blu-ray players and tons of blu-ray movies. but for those who still view dvd's only, this is a step forward. a lot of people have huge dvd collections they're not ready to get rid of and pay a fortune to replace with blu-ray versions. especially since not all blu-rays are even that much better than dvds including audio (warner). now factor in this upscaling technology and the difference isn't worth replacing your current dvd collection.

I wonder if the mods are going to move this thread to the HDTV discussion. It would seem to be more on topic there. I think some folks over in that discussion might be interested in this new upscaling chipset that will probably be incorporated into new HDTVs that hit the market in 2010.
