Since the PS3 doesn't do Bitstream as long as the reciever accepts HDMI input/ouptut you should be fine. In your PS3 menu, just select Linear PCM and all audio options(or auto), set it on your reciever and that should be it. What kind of reciever will you be getting, if you don't already have one? Oh before I forget the display will read Multichannel when playing a Blu Ray.

Just make sure it accepts PCM, not all HDMI receivers are created equal. Look out for pass though....

hdmi connectivity doesn't mean you get truehd sound. Ps3 decodes the track and sends it out via linear pcm, which means you need a receiver that can accept that.

also avoid "hdmi pass through" receivers

My receiver is cheap and does what you need, if you are on a budget. (Onkyo TX-SR576)
1 point it doesn't upscale to HDMI for video. Go the 606 if you want that.
