RGB Limited or Full? - Blu-ray Forum

Ok, ive read many discussions regarding this setting, but no solid answer. What exactly is the correct setting? I notice on my tv that when put to limited, the black levels and colors seem dull when compared to Full. So is full the correct way to go?

It all depends if your TV is capable of handling it. My TV isn't and I know that because when I have it set to full everything is extremely dark and I cannot make out night scenes for the life of me. So if you do not have extreme darkness when enabled then I say its the right setting. What made the huge difference for me is when I was watching Ratatouille and was turning it on and off during the scene where The Main Character is throwing the rat into the river after catching it in the jar.

It's just a bigger range, from 0 to 215(?) instead of starting at 12. It's only going to be worthwhile if your TV supports it. Check the manual. Like Mike said, if it doesn't you'll just end up crushing blacks out the wazoo as everything below the threshold of "limited" will be seen as absolute black.

They should honestly call it "Standard" and "PC" or something though- Limited is a misnomer. It's typically for use in the PC world.

ok, maybe this is a dumb question, but when im looking in my tv manual, what exactly am i looking for? Or will it say, something like "accepts full RGB..."?

Do some searching, because I remember seeing this subject a while back, but cannot remember the thread title. There is a picture w/ the numbers 1234 displayed w/ increasing brightness against a black background. If you put that on your TV through the PS3 set the RGB to what lets you see all the numbers. I believe mine is set to limited.

Again, I believe there is a thread which explains this on this forum, and why to set it to Limited. If I find it I'll post the link.

ok thanks man. I just checked my manual and it made no mention of anything for RGB...
