I have
1. A Samsung DLP 1080i with DVI input(no hdmi) and 2. Sony str-de835 receiver with 5.1 analog inputs. I am in the market for a blue ray player right now, which one would be the best bang for the buck, am not planning to change my TV or my receiver right now. Thanks Narsi |

theres quite a number of em, and you have many options to choose from as of the moment.
quick questions tho, 1. are you looking for a blu-ray player capable of shooting out the higher def audio signals? if so, multichannel can 'suffice' so to speak. most of the players require your system to play it using the hdmi connection. 2. whats your price range? there are a number right now for around 200 clams, and if you'd rather play the waiting game, you can end up for one by christmas. |

jomari,
The reason for my question is to get a better understanding of where I stand with this configuration. Yes, I would like to get the higher def audio signals. I was under the impression that could be possible if I could get a player that decodes them and then send it down to 5.1 inputs even without the hdmi. Am i wrong ? as about the budget, i am just checking right now, would obviously go the cheapest one that gives me the most. |

Any player that gives you the analog outs will work... I like the Panasonic and Sony players.... I am one of the few fans against the PS3 because of it's noise

Exactly... what noise?!?!?!
I have a launch 60GB PS3 (supposedly the loudest of the bunch) and never have a problem with the fan noise. People who are watching Blu-rays often enough at a low enough volume that the fan noise is affecting the audio presentation are obviously not getting nearly their money worth. As to the OP question? PS3 is the best way to go. Also, only way to get the lossless codec outputs is through HDMI or analog outs if the player has them. Optical cable and RCA will not produce lossless audio. |

Both the Panasonic 55 and the Sony 550 are currently available at Amazon for ~ $330 before a promotional offer of $100 off with purchase of four select Time Warner BDs. This is an excellent deal if you don't already have the movies offered (or if you do, after selling them on ebay). I've read extensively on the two players and right now I'm personally leaning toward the Panny as most head-to-head comparisons give it a slight edge on AQ, PQ and software (and I just think it looks more attractive as well
