Default Any good deals on upconvering dvd players?

I recently got rid of my upconverting 5.1 samsung surround sound system to get my new setup only problem is now i don't have a standard upconverting dvd player besides my PS3 and i don't want to use it to watch regular dvd's. So is there any good deals on upconverting dvd players now? Also what brand should i go with, I had the samsung one and it didn't seem to look that great so anything but samsung please.

Why would you waste money on an upconverting DVD player when the PS3 is one of the better ones out there? Just curious.

I've always found the PS3 to be a pretty poor upconverting player, and he may be worried about possibly burning out the PS3 playing regular dvds. Also, if it is any older PS3 it may have a loud fan noise, I know my 60 gig has that problem at times.

I've got a Sony upconverting, and some people swear by the new Toshiba upconverting players that claim to be near hd quality. I personally haven't used them so I don't have an opinion.

Yeah thats exactly why i don't want to use the PS3 i figure it will get enough use between all the video games and blurays, don't wanna burn it out to fast. My budget would be 50 or 60 don't wanna spend to much on it because of my recent surround sound purchases.

Here is an off topic question..? When it comes to burning out the PS3, what kind of wear and tear on the machine will cause that to happen. I thought that the PS3 had a long lifespan; with the notion it would be used a lot for games and movies.

good point.... I don't know about it burning out, I just don't think the quality of the image for DVDs is very good compared to pretty much every other player I have......

I don't use my PS3s for games.... so they should last a lifetime

Oh okay... I only have metal gear solid 4 for my ps3, everything else is blu with an occasional standard dvd. i am assuming that my ps3 will last a long time at this rate.

I don't use mine for anything but BDs, but I've read that it is pretty decent. I actually like my Toshiba A2 for watching DVDs.

PS3 isn't a great upconverter... I like my LG LDA731... Its a few years old but upconverts very nice with HDMI output and plays + upconverts divx, xvid and vcd as well.

Oh and when I got it it was only $69 so I would think their newer model would be cheaper.

I have an A30 that is going to be a gift to my brother as soon as I replace all of the movies with blu-rays. I got it the day after I got my first PS3

I watch DVDs on a Denon 5910 DVD player, or my 400 Disc Sony player.... depending on what room I'm in.

Doesn't it really come down to what piece of equipment has the better deinterlacer (DVD player or TV), since all of today's sets will convert the input signal to the set's native resolution?
