I currently have a Big screen with the DVI input only.
I currently using a standard DVD player and 5.1 surround Receiver. I do not want to buy something I don't need obviously, so do I need to purchase anything other than a Blu-ray player to watch HI Def movies? My receiver has no HDMI ports of any kind. I was thinking I might have to buy a new receiver also. Any help/advice appreciated Boro in AZ |

you will see a difference with blu ray, Blu ray will look good and it is not a waste even if you do not have a 1080p tv (sure it would be better) Now the picture is only half of it. Blu ray offers audio codect DTS HD and Dolby True HD. You can buy a DVI to HDMi adapter on monoprice for $3 and you would hook up through HDMI but you would have to do digital to your receiver. I would recommend getting a receiver that supports those codecs like an Onkyo 606. You will notice a difference in PQ and a bigger difference in AQ if you upgrade your reciever.
Good Luck! Websites you should put on favorites: Monoprice.com |

thanks to all who added something. I think I'll go with getting the Blu-ray player. My receiver does have optical input. So.......the way I'm understanding this is;
1 - My Blu-ray gets hooked up to my TV via the HDMI-DVI cable for the video. 2 - Then I run the optical from the blu-ray player to the receiver for the audio. correct me if I'm wrong. What's a good Blu-Ray player to start with? Don't think I can afford top of the line. |
