Is Amazon.com the cheapest place to buy Blu-Rays in the USA on a daily basis? I'm not talking about the every-so-often one-day deal at Target or anything... but the best place for generally good prices?

I'd say overall yes since it often price-adjusts to match sales by Tower, retail, etc. I buy the majority of my blu-ray from Amazon. You just need to be patient and wait for the sale to pop up. For instance, The Proposition for $10.99, Kill Bill 1&2 for $29. I jumped on these sales and they only lasted for 2 or 3 days, but I never saw anything like them anywhere else.

In the past it was generally true that Amazon was the cheapest place to get Blu-rays. At this point, I would say it is no longer true. Thier prices have risen slightly over the last couple of months and other sites have began pricing titles at similar prices to Amazon. Look around a lot before purchasing, there are many good deals out there that are not on Amazon.
A few things to keep in mind... 1) Tax and shipping charges vary by website, take all of that into consideration before thinking you found the cheapest price. 2) You can always get Blus cheaper by waiting several weeks after it's release date or by buying it from a 3rd party seller on Amazon a few weeks after release date. |

Most of the time it is the best. I live in Canada, mega-sales are rare and there is 13% tax. Futureshop/Bestbuy sometimes will have a sale on some blu-rays from 16.99-19.99.
I like to buy off of amazon.com and ship it to my cousin's house in Michigan. Someone always makes a trip to Michigan once a month. Even with the exchange rate, it is cheaper. Also, try kijiji/craigslist sometimes you get lucky. I got the Matrix Ultimate Collection, Pirates Box set and Dirty Harry Collection all sealed for $170 CAD. That's about $14 per movie. ![]() |

They're pretty good with pricing. Shipping is a ***** but i've you've got prime, you're set. Otherwise, you have to spend enough to get the free shipping and sometimes it's been good with a 2 day lag time and sometimes it's taken me almost 2 weeks to recieve my goods.
Other times.....i can't wait for it so i just buy it from BB...they're not too bad and the reward zone card is not bad. For example...Dark Knight is cheapest on Amazon but I'll be getting it @ BB...I can't wait lol |

I have been shopping at DeepDiscount.com. Right now they are running a special of 25% of on ALL their blu-ray movies. They posted two discount codes, Supersale or DVDTalk. I bought 8 films and saved over $100.00. I think the sale is running through the 23rd of this month.

Tropic Thunder - Amazon $26.99, Tower $24.86 Wall-E (2 Disc) - Amazon $24.95, Tower $22.86 Southland Tales - Amazon $19.99, Tower $17.86 Heathers - Amazon $15.99, Tower $15.86 The bad thing about Tower, though, is they charge you right away. If the prices drop between your order date and the shipping date you are stuck paying what ever price it was at the time of ordering. Last edited by Rhoq; 11-18-2008 at 08:47 PM. |

Overall yes, but it really depends on what titles you're looking for. If you have a Best Buy or Circuit City in your area you can often times find the same or lower prices then Amazon on their websites, but not necessarily in the stores. You can purchase on the web site and arrange for store pick-up and skip the shipping charges and have it the same day for a lower price then in the actual store.

Amazon is rarely the cheapest.
Check DVD Price Search (www.dvdpricesearch.com) Some examples: Wall-E 3 Disc Deep Discount #1 at $25.76 Amazon #3 at $25.97 The Third Man #1 DVD Box Office $27.72 Amazon #2 at $28.99 I have only seen Amazon the cheapest constantly about 40% of the time. Deep Discount DVD has a much better record. With that said, I do have to say Amazon is quite possibly the easiest online retailer to order from. But, why limit your self to just one or two retailers? Hit up a price comparison site like DVD Price Search and go with the cheapest. |

I often find Amazon to either be the cheapest, or at least close to it (within a few cents) on a daily basis, not taking special sales events, etc, into consideration.
I usually order most of my movies from them. Since they have free shipping and no tax, it's worth it. For some people DeepDiscount may be competitive. The problem for me is that I live in the state that they are based out of, so I have to pay tax on my orders. I have been ordering a lot from DD recently with the 25% off sale (because even with tax, I end up saving a lot), but during non-sales periods, I usually order from Amazon. There are occasions where I might find a considerably better deal elsewhere and go with it instead, but most of the time Amazon is the main source for my movies, esspecially Blu-Rays. |

There are a lot of Amazon fanboys that will swear with their dying breath that Amazon has the cheapest prices. This is not true. Prices can change daily on the web and I have found that Tower usually stays on top of keeeping prices cheaper than Amazon, but Tower does not alway beat Amazon prices and Amazon can sometimes be the cheapest but. There really is no perfect answer to your question and you just have to keep checking a few different sites to find a price that you are happy with.

In the past they have been, but today when I went into Best Buy to buy Wall-E with some reward zone dollars I saw Tropic Thunder for $19.99 with the t-shirt. It had already shipped yesterday from Amazon for $26.99 and was in the mail when I got home. Ya win some ya lose some.

It definitely is for me. No sales tax, free 2-day shipping (Prime), and the prices are usually $2-5$ cheaper the first week then about $10 cheaper after the new releases go up to $34.99 at physical stores (i.e. Target, Best Buy, and Wal-Mart).
The only time I ever buy blurays from someone else is when I have some Best Buy reward zone gift certificates or if there is a great sale somewhere. |

On a daily basis, I would pick Amazon as the online merchant more likely than not to have the least expensive prices. Will they have the best price? Probably the majority of the time, but not overwhelmingly so.
