Im upgrading my cheeeeaaap HTIB I bought like 1.5 yrs ago, that I got from Walmart...with Sony STRDG820 and Polk Rm6705 speakers. Decetn starter setup eh? I also bought my Sony S350 a few days ago, using MS Cashback . It should sound leagues better than my RCA HTIB I hope, haha.

yes, speaker wire makes a difference, you can't go too big
but you can go too small, depends on power and distance
see speakers 101 in sticky section

I'm not crazy about Polk speakers... Go with NHT, Klispch, Jbl, Definitive Tech, B & W, or Snell.

Here we go with the Klipsch hate. Look, just get the speakers YOU like and take other people's opinions as just that...opinions. If you listen to all of those suggestions you may end up wanting the Polk speakers after all based on your own listening and budget. Then again you may hear some other brands like Mirage or KEF that suit you better. Let YOUR ears and wallet dictate what you purchase. One thing that irks me is when I see people up here show complete bias for or towards a specific brand, especially when the track record of that said company can speak for itself. Its one thing to state a preference, but its a totally different thing to bash something because its not your preference. There are many Klipsch lovers out there for a reason...they make great speakers. I'm not a Polk fan myself, but I wouldn't say that their speakers are junk...they're just not my preference. If you're going to offer an opinion make sure its a constructive one so you don't come out sounding like some fanboy or a hater.
