He's talking about the original, which is out now on Blu-ray. Most will be disappointed with the transfer, but I found it good considering the very weak original source.

most say it is the "worst looking" blu ray out there... It is the worst looking one I own. But it isn't interlaced like the old DVD... it has a lot of grain which doesn't bother me. For some odd reason I really like watching the blu ray though.
if you don't own the original DVD then the Blu is worth it since most online prices are the same for the blu as they are with the DVD. |

oh ya, it's a horrible transfer, but like mentioned above, I didn't own this on SD-DVD and believe it or not, I'd never seen this flick before so I picked it up. It looks terrible but that's fine. Another thing i noticed is that the left hand side of the frame appears to be darker in some of the shadowy scenes. Anyone else notice this. It might be on the right as well but the left is where I continually noticed it. At fist I thought it was just a camera effect they were using at the first if the movie but the darkness continues throughout the film.

oh god, here we go. Sorry, i guess then what i ment to say is it's horrible quality. if that's the way the director wanted it to look then I guess he likes stuff looking like shit. Did the director intend to have a darker shodow on the left hand side of the frame?

I watched the Blu last night and noticed that in some of the dark scenes (and some light) there are a few lines mostly on the right side of the screen. Anyone else notice this? I'm hoping it's not burn in on my tv...pretty sure it's not.
You can really notice it in the scene where Billy goes apeshit in the attic and starts knocking stuff over and making a mess. |

For those who are saying that the blu-ray is a terrible transfer, you should know that the source material looks just like the transfer. I know this because I just saw a screening of an archival 35mm print of the film. The blu-ray is faithful to the source material, including the dense grain. The 35mm print had some of the densest grain I've ever seen.
The only thing about the blu-ray that I find kind of interesting is that it's framed at 1.78.1, whereas the print I saw was an open matte 1.37.1. The 1.37.1 ratio actually looked like the correct AR; having seen both, some of the shots on the blu-ray look a little tight. |
