Default GPS advice?

my dad has been talking about wanting a gps navigation device for his car and i'm looking to get it for him for Christmas. i have no experience with navigation devices so i don't know what to look for. anyone have suggestions on what's good, what to avoid, and where the cheapest place is to get one. i'm looking to spend approx. $200.

I love my Garmin C330. Only thing it doesn't do is street by street speaker directions. it is clearly labeled on the screen, but on speaker it only says '"turn left, turn right in 300 ft" etc. GPS cost more if you want it to actually say out loud what you see on the screen.
