Default If im doing HDMI out from my video card.....

Does it really matter what sound card i have? if im just passing the audio through my video card my sound card shouldnt even be touching it right?

ATI 4870 video card

Not to sure about this one BLindsay. If you're using HDMI to the TV from the video card, then the HDMI should carry the sound as well. I"m doing a component dongle and I have to carry the sound from the sound card as well. Somebody please correct me if I"m wrong. Thank you.

i know it does carry the sound cause i can hear it on my tv i just didnt know if it was altered or touched by the sound card along the way or if it was just being passed unaltered

the only time use the sound card if you going to a receiver and the hdmi is going to the tv by itself, but besides that you do not need the sound card option the hdmi will take the sound once it is hooked up to the video card
